Hey guys (and gals),

I found this when going through some old CDs from a few years ago.

The recording was kind of a scratch one that I made quickly the night I wrote the song, but there's a certain charm to it I think.

Anyway, the main thing I'm wondering about is the length. It's very short right now. Do you think it stands well as it is, or should it be developed into a full-length song with a bridge and more verses maybe?

All other criticisms are welcome.

Thanks much!

Here's the link. It's called "Nobody Showers"

I'd give it a listen but I'm not big on signing up for anything. (Too much spam and a VERY limited appetite for it.) Is there anywhere else you have it posted? Dave

Whether the song should be longer depends entirely on what you intend to do with it.

Personally I found the lyrics to be so vague as to be meaningless when looked at together. You do have some nice phrases in there. The music's pleasant, but not fully developed (since it's a scratch, that's not a surprise).

If this was in my own pile of unfinished work, I'd regard it as nice but probably go on with other more inspiring things, but inspirations are so personal my opinion about that isn't worth much :)

No I don't ... sorry. I don't my own site or anything like that.

Is there some other place I could post it that wouldn't require a sign-up?

I can, however, vouch for soundclick. I've never received any spam from them. All you have to do is create a dummy email address (at hotmail or something) and use it for anything like that. Only use your real email address for legitimate contacts. That's what I do, and it works great.

Thanks for the comments. Yes the lyrics are a bit vague, I know. But I don't think they're supposed to really have a strong coherent meaning. The song's about kind of about a daydream feeling, so ... they're a bit ... I don't know ... stream-of-concsiousness I guess.

If you're interested, the other song on there, "That's What I'd Say," has much more relateable lyrics.

Anyway, thanks for the listen!

Good lyrics on the other cut! I had a problem with the sound though. I'll PM you about that.

I'm glad that problem got straightened out, because you've got a great voice. Really liked the way it comes through in "Nobody Showers".
Do some more.

I agree with Hugo. I liked the other cut, 'That's What I'd Say', better (because it's not a scratch, duuuuh!).
Like -
All the guitars are very well recorded and the tremolo sounds great.
Love the little harmonic accent in there at a couple of places.
Singing very nice.
Love the chord progressions
Love the tempo changes

Dislike -
Where's the bass? Seemed to me to be waaayyy in the back most of the time.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks much for the feedback y'all.

Hugo: "Nobody Showers" was recorded on my old Roland VS 880 with an AKG C3000 through a Behri mixer. I agree that the effects are a little thick, but it does seem to suit the spacey vibe of that song.

Tamky: Yes the bass was buried on "That's what I'd say," I agree. I wish I could change it now, but all I have is the CD version of it now.

"That's what I'd say" was recorded on a little handheld Zoom PS04 digital 4-track (I don't have it anymore, so I can't remix the bass louder). I used it mostly for ideas, but one day I decided to see how good of a recording I could make using only it.

The vox and the acoustic guitar were recorded with the built-in condenser mic.

The electric guitar (tremolo part) was recording direct with the on-board amp simulator.

The bass and the drums were programmed with the on-board bass & drum machine.

Anyway, thanks again. I'm in the process of getting some more stuff recorded and I'll be sure to post when it's done.

It's sometimes amazing how much you can do with so little. :)
