Hi all,

I have a song I recorded with my band online on

www.belgiummp3.be/mp3/madra_lyss

equipment used:

drums recorded on Roland VS1680 with 2 shure condensors as overhead, shure beta on the snare, two clipon mics on the toms , AKG basdrummic on the bd en an AKG C1000 on the hihat.

Those recorded drums were put on my PC (I rented the drum recording material) pentium 3 800 MHz, with a sound blaster live platinum card. I recorded all the rest with a simple dynamic AKG D660 mic on CEP, using the Waves plugins bundle.

I am quite happy of the result, especially when I know what equipment I used (I even had to mix on hifi speakers!)

all comments are welcome!

the drums sound good, but the kick and the snare get a touch more lost than i'd like to hear for this kind of music at times....they can definitely come up.......the vocal also gets a little burried at parts........the guitars sound great, but maybe you should try cutting a bit out of them to give more room for the vocal and drums......

good rock song.....

hi powderfinger, thx for your comments.

Your remarks are interesting: I had endless discussions about song balance with our bassist, especially about guitar volumes in relation to drums and vocals. His point is that in most rock especially vocals are too upfront, the singer should audible but also give the impression he 'has to try' to get above the mix. We'll discuss it again now I guess. :)

Maybe I'll try a bit more kick/snare and vocals, but on this one I am quite satisfied at the moment. Maybe I'll change my opinion in a couple of weeks, when I can listen with a clear head after hearing the song 1000 times the last two weeks.

thx for listening!

Not bad at all. The band seems like it has a lot of potential... if the songwriter learns to write.

Wildcard score :F

We write our songs together. I know this music may seem of few interest for ppl who expect songs with inventive harmonies and melodies, but in this band we would like to focus on the atmosphere and just fuckin' rock'n'roll. I am in my last year conservatory now, so I had 4 years lessons in jazzharmony, solfege, music history,... so I just want to say it is clearly a choice that we make not to use harmonic information or other elements ppl expect from a traditional 'song'.

Anyway, thx for listening! I appreciate it.
