a perfect pop song!
(hope you dont mind me calling it pop :) ) Hard to put in a certain genre though i guess. I love the atmospheric synth and the acoustic sounds great

stunning

guitar, stunning. Really amazing sound and playing. Perfect. Different combination with electronic beats, groovy.

Great stuff. Really nice melodies. I'm not sure about the drum stuff but it seemed to work well. Great guitar playing, they sounded beautiful. Every once in a while one of the twangy high notes would kind of stick me in the eye, but other than that, great mix. I liked the synths and the swooshy sound effects in the back ground.

Erichenryus

Oh yeah... I listen to WNUA all the time. I coincidently received something for a trip a day giveaway in the mail yesterday. I'm going to send them a cd soon... so maybe they can play a few of the tracks late at night on the starting artists lounge! :)
Thats funny your right down the street from the centre club. I used to work out there quite a bit... Im friends with the manager, which is a fan! I still have to get in there and play a game of one on one B-ball with him. :)

jake-owa

hey jake.. im suppose to be making you try harder and make your fingers bleed through the strings :) hey... i feel the same way when i listen to good artists :) im going to take a peep at your new single after my typing here. thanks!

M.Brane

hey thanks! your right that the drums are the weak point. considering im not a drummer I have to go back to my favorite albums and listen to how a drummer plays to feel and program it on my computer. until I get some realistic drum samples or a real drummer... i guess they'll have to do. :) I even tried a few different snare and tried combining snares and this was the best i could do. For me, drums are the hardest thing to get right in a song... Im sure they'll sound fine as soon as i get the tricks right :)

A1A2

Hi ala2. im glad ya like the mix. it took some time to get right and i still hear little probs. in there :) It really takes some time to train your ears to listen to everything that is going on with the mix. Its extremely easy to miss something when you have 30 tracks going at once. heres a look at the congestion:

Im not really sure what to catagorize this music as... but a main genere of new age seems appropriate.. with small influences of world and folk/pop. at any rate I hope it doesnt sound think anything... that would be cool :) Thanks Al

silver_rye

hi silver-rye... i dont might the pop classification at all... it fits in a few of those generes at different levels i think. Im glad you like the added syth noises... those kinda were a last minute add-in because there were some dry spots in there... welcome to the board and thanks!

Erland

hey'ya bloody bastard :D i tried to send you a pm a little while back but your message box was so full your mailbox was spitting it back out  thanks for your kind words.. its great to have you stop by and listen to my ditties! Thanks E :)

hi doug... ya beat me to the post :)

thanks for the listen...
my mics really are very sensitive.. so if you were to solo one of my acoustic tracks.. they're noises all over the place.. including the neighbors dog :) I did use noise reduction in a couple spots to take out some hiss, but besides that everything is in there including lassie :)
I try to leave all the strings noises in there including slaps and stuff... it just gives an organic feel to the acoustic.

thanks doug!

very nice .... the tones on the two guitars were full of flavor. I like the change in the second movement when they seem to swap and the accompaniment take the melodic and the melodic takes accompaniment position. The snare, well..., I think a more wooden sound would be a little better, but this works. parts of the melody and tone send me back to a tune by Bob James wiht some similarly tasteful guitar playing called The Kissing Cross. I got bout the same buzz.... real nice man.. :)

Ya, I noticed a bit of "tape hiss". I meant the synth "jet flying by" effects tho. like the first one at 1:05, I thought they fit in well.

Sounds nice, great playing. The acoustics were so clean sounding I thought they were DI'd. I'd actually prefer a more organic sound with a little more texture but that's my taste. Great job.

ah... bob james is awsome :) thats cool that you heard of him Toki! im gonna have to find the kissing cross and take a listen..
im a huge fan of him with James Sanborn!
Thanks also for your listen toki and take care!

well Im off to karaoke with my friend to work on my vocals for my singing debut... hopefully very soon :)

thanks alot friends!

really excellent piece!

personal preference would have been to have a less synthetic sounding backing, but I still enjoyed it heavily! It seems like these are the types of tunes you should be playing.. I like them much more than your dirtier stuff.. nice!

hah... i got a kick out of your title under your screen name :) funny!
i wasnt trying to sound "too slick" but i guess thats just the way i mixed it. I was just trying to go for something different with somewhat of an appeal to most people :) This song started with a thought last thurs and built to its current state, but if i were to work on it for another week of soo.. im sure it would sound very different, but I sometimes like to leave well enough alone. Thanks!

Aw man, please don't feel ashamed of it! Right after I typed it I thought of this:

I like to be...eh....provoked a bit, tastewise. Better to be provoked than feel nothing at all. And I love the idea of mixing 'generally accepted' musical styles or sounds with 'generally unaccepted' ones (all these N.E.R.D./Neptunes fans who have to admit they like Justin Timberlake also because JT's record is 90% N.E.R.D./Neptunes...it makes them nuts....h i l a r i o u s! :D). I'm still waiting for a delicate songer/songwriter kind of song mixed with death metal high speed drums (preferably with some cheesy keyboard patches added ;) ). Perhaps I should make it myself.... :D

In other words: please keep doing it! What's good taste? Who defines what is cheesy and what isn't? Why conform to something that's totally undefinable anyway?

That's the joy of homerecording: no rules (you'll never get succesful anyway ;) )

Whoops, here I go again. I digress....excuse me guys :D

Wow. I really enjoy your stuff. You have great tones on the acoustic. Very dynamic playing.

I took a listen to some of your other songs too. I had to download some of it. :-)

Really nice playing - thanks!

:)

ok just finished up the very last edit of this song and used all your comments to spice it up

I got rid of the snare and replaced a real wooden sounding one with slight reverb

deleted 50% of the drum sounds and added some light fills.

added some ambient pads ridding on an LFO @ chorus

added some octave goodies on the guitar, by popular request with some listeners

please give me one last set of ears :)

I'll be back shortly for a roundup with replys to you comments

time to fill the belly :)

Mmmm.... just had chinese food (pork fried rice/mongolian beef) . i dont know about you guys, but its got to be some of the tastiest food ever invented!

TexRoadkill

hi tex. i gave a listen again and it does sound like the guitars are almost DI'd. because im so close to my mics.. ~7" ... I dont want to pick up too much of the acoustics in here because they're not so good. you usually get more of the instruments sound with the room the farther you go from the mic, so I'll try to find the threshold next time:) thanks!

B.SABBATH

hey sam . thanks for checking this one out. I was gonna ask you if you had a good snare sample i could borrow :) but i managed to find a halfway decent one that will work. when i get a little extra money i think im going to get a tons of samples... they're very cool to work with and they are sound great and cheaper than hardware units :) ya cant beat that! :) yeah.. i'll take your advice and stick to the mellower stuff... but a little Satriani now and then can never hurt :) talk to ya around! oh.. i dig your patriotic avator you are wearing.. Cool!

Pedullist

not ashamed at all after reading your post :)
i had to read your comment a couple times :) i guess N.E.R.D./Neptunes is a band? :) yes... ive heard of justin timberlake before... he was with the backstreet boys or something? anyways... yes music is relative to the listener which makes it extra interesting.
its really cool to get ideas from the whole crowd here because you can collectivly put together some good ideas people have and write a neat tune. thanks for adding your ideas!

caryindy

Thanks a bunch for you message. download as many as you can!... i should have more songs up shortly if you dont mind coming back to check :) thanks for listening!
