Hello Fat -- Welcome to the board!

I checked out Just So You Know. You have a huge mix here. Sounds pretty good overall.

I would've liked to hear the vocals a bit more (they seemed kind of buried) and on my system, I was picking a bit of sibilance...but, I can only listen in lo-fi and so you'll get better mix advice from others on this board. There were a few places where the drums sounded like they could use a boost as well, maybe the guitars were a little bit overpowering (I kind of noticed this towards the end) ...

Not a bad tune though and your voice fit it well.

The dampened guitar is overwhelming the vocal. I think this is just a matter of levels. Nice stereo effect of the guitars.

General concensus seems to be theres something wrong w the guitars (various comments about tone, levels, definition, have it posted over on H/C also)

Its sure nice to get outside opinions though...I mix and hear all these things I think are wrong, post it and everyone comments on everything BUT what I hear hehehe

I think B.SABBATH would like this one (the song, maybe not the mix). I liked it a bit too. Cool vibe. I kind of got a Lenny Kravitz feel. Needs prominent harmonies though.

I thought the guitars were a little midrange heavy. They're a bit abrasive and dominating the mix. They're covering the vox. If it were me, I'd retrack them with a better sound.

The song could use a little more bass. This is the kind of song that needs a strong low end to give you that "big" sound. The bass is lacking. I'd pull it up some and try to use some careful EQing to give it a more defined attack.

Not sure what's up with the drums or how they were tracked, but they seem to lack a little presence. They kind of have a muffled sound to them.

The vox are pretty good I think, they're just covered up by the guits.

I'm focusing too much on the negatives, sorry. But I hope it helps make it a better tune. Good job.

Pretty cool song man.

I would try cutting some 2-4K off the guitars (I usually have to with my Marshall too). Or just retrack them cutting some mids off at the amp.

It's tough to call while the guitars are still "blaring," but you might still need to raise the vocal even after the EQ cuts you make to the guitars.

The others have pretty much said what I would have. One thing I thought was the squeak from the guitar comes out quite loud, probably because its so high in the mix, but I'm not sure why its so loud. Its good though

Im thinking maybe TripleM is right, I should prolly retrack em. Theyre direct from my pedalboard and I didnt spend much time at all dialin the sound in....guess that slop shows...learned something hehe

The drums are programmed (hits not loops) and it sounds like I need to dial them in a bit more too...

Am I correct in assuming you all took this for a "real" band? is that a compliment? hehe just a one-man show

yeah... the guitar is overwhelming....

but my main complaint is about the singing. the singer needs some major practice. his pitch is WAY off. and... i can hardly understand what he's saying... he needs to learn to enunciate clearly.

now, i don't want to sound mean or anything..... but i don't think the song is very good either. perhaps the lyrics are good, but i couldn't make them out. but the melody (what melody?)... and the chords... the beat... it's all pretty boring.

so, i think before tackling technical mixing problems, your band should concentrate on the composition and their singing/playing skills.

i know most posts here praise you for the most part, but i honestly think your band needs a lot of work. please don't be mad or whatever... but i do have confidence in my listening skills. so take my words as you will....

if you want... i can listen to the song again and give a more in-depth analysis... but i dunno how much you appreciate my opinion right now.

no not mean at all Orpheus...I appreciate the honesty. Others here and elsewhere have said basically the same thing and based on that Im gonna retrack it (cus I like the song heh) and see if I can get it better...not much Ill be able to do about the vocals though. As you can hear, I really can not sing (this is the closest Ive gotten to anything qualifying for net posting status after a few sessions....its been sonically painful tracking to this point hehe) but its the only way Ill get better...

Right now Im searching for a better guitar sound as that was the #1 complaint

Hey cool vibe, it kinda reminds me of the Cars if you progressed them into the future.


Yep the highs on the guitar, especially telling is the prominence of string momevent i'm hearing. A little is ok but im hearing every shift he's making loud and clear.

I also think you might experiment with a little less distortion on the guitar. Sometimes i find guitar tracks tracks sound heavier with less distortion than cranking to 11.

Cool!Rock on brutha!Your guitar sound is terrible,sorry but it's taking away from the coolness of the tune.Bring up those vox and EQ those drums better,they're kinda flat sounding.Great band name... Mix isn't bad musicwise.Vox up, Guitar tone tweaked...it could be real cool.Nice first post dude!!!
