Still learning
Hey gang, I was hoping you could check out my latest and give me some feedback regarding guitar tone. It's called Lastly, and most of the lead guitar was recorded as follows:

Fender American Standard Strat, neck pickup
Hot Rod Deluxe set to clean
Chandler Tube Driver w/ drive at 10 o'clock
Rode NT1a condenser mic, placed just off cone
Focusrite mic pre

Not really looking for critiques of my playing, but if you must, you must. Mostly concerned about the tone(s).

Cheers!

Lastly

Nice sounding. The clean guitar is well done. My initial impression of the lead tone, is a bit too much verb. But when it gets dirtier, it sounds good, and teh switch back, it doesn't seem to sound as wet. Might just be my ears on this tune. Very nice tune. I like the melody. Whole thing is pretty nice.
Cool tune.
Ed

Thanks Ed. :)

I did slap a bunch of VST effects on the lead tracks, and played around with the EQ settings. You think I should scale it all back a bit? Or just the verb? The 2nd "verse" lead is a different tone altogether. Does is fit?

Thanks again,

Chris

I'd scale the verb back, at least a little, and see. If it doesn't sound good, put it back. It might make the cleaner lead sit a bit more "In" the tune. Might suck...

Did you get my PM about deleting the other thread? If nothing else, you can lock it, and it will fade away.

I like the tone of the guitar on the second "verse" the first one has a bit too much treble (for my taste) - I'd like a bit more mids/bottom on the leads. This might be completely different if it was a band playing and not the acoustic. You might need more treble to cut through in a band situation. Perhaps it's the large difference in tones between the acoustic and the lead. This is just my preference so take it with a large grain of salt.....
BTW - the playing is great no problems there......

Thanks ido. :)

Believe it or not, I am using the neck pickup on the Strat! I agree that there is a harshness in the leads I would like to fix. Perhaps I could get there via the EQ section.

Any others thoughts or comments before I try to tweak the tone(s)? :)

Hi

I like the tone of the guitars and the playing also. I think those guitars fit well together.

Really awesome composition, absoloutely love it. In terms of the tone, I would personally try and back off the effects and give it a more natural, organic sound. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good as it is but is perhaps just a touch too 'wet' for a lot of peoples tastes. Also, in terms of EQ tweaking, I always like to think less is more - if you have to tweak a lot then the chances are you haven't got almost the sound you want straight from the mic etc to the PC. And that's what you should be aiming for IMO. These are just minor things though, really good instrumental and a good mix too. Nice work. :)

Edit: I listened to a couple of others and I noticed you have them all in 'Alternative'. I definetely think you'd get more listens/downloads at SC if you put your stuff in 'Instrumental Rock. Your stuff deserves lots of listens. :)

Jack Real, thank you. :)

Humbucker, I really appreciate your comments also. Are you suggesting I get all my songs into the Instrumental Rock genre on the SC site? Or just this one? The others have some vocals on them...
