New set woes

Heres my problem... after thinking, I decided it would be best to buy 2 Sonor Force 3005 drum sets (one studio set, one fusion set), and combine them into one really big set. The problem is, none of the drum set options have a 24x17.5 bass drum, just 22x17.5. I tried emailing a place to see if they could replace them, and I wouldn't mind paying extra... but they havent emailed back for a few days (i think 5 days so far, maybe 6). I could get my entire set piece by piece, and that way I can get the 24x17.5 inch bass drums, but that would cost at least $500 extra. Do you know any place where they would allow me to switch the 22x17.5 bass drum with a 24x17.5 one? Or am I just screwed?

I don't understand why you are so obsessed about a 17.5" Kick drum depth. It's not going to make a ton of difference....all it really does is make the drum have a little more ring to it. Since you have the Danny C. thing happening, you're going to want to put a ton of muffling in the kick to achieve his type of kick sound - so the extra drum length is pretty much for looks. (Not to mention a drumcase will cost your more.)

If you really intend to recreate his exact set, then you're wasting your money on the 3005's...you had better start saving up for the Sonor Designer series that he's using.

His 8"x14" Sonor snare drum sells for about $1,200.00

I would suggest you buy the individual drums for several reasons.

#1. HARDWARE.

Invest in Sonor's top of the Line Hardware. The HArdware that comes with the 3005 series is NOT the top of the Line....generally Hardware and the drum finish is the big difference between the lower lines and the tp of the line these days.

SNARE.

#2. Instead of having two 3005 snares, you can put the money toward an 8" deep snare.

#3. Getting what you want.

You will get the exact basic set up that you want.


Now, let me ask you a question:

How old are you? Where are you located? (Just the City/State & Country you live in)

My suggestion: Get a second Job. If you're a student, then get a first job - if you're out for summer holidays - and you are working a job - then get a second job, and deposit every single bit of your check in the bank. It will add up in no time.

Buy the kicks, toms, tom stand, snare, snare stand, and pedals first.

Then sell the kit you have, and use that to help pay the difference in the rest of the hardware.

Do you intend to add electric drums as well? alot of the sounds that DC uses do exist in the Alesis DM5, and you could build your own electric pads for nothing. (basically the price of some mousepad rubber, the tom mounts, and some wood to have the bodies made out of. a local cabinet shop could make the drum bodies for you.)

Okay...I see what it is - the kit only comes with a 22". I was thinking they offered the kits with a 16"x24" Most manufacturers offer an 18"x22" in their lower lines, but only have a 16"x24".

Hmmm. I saw a Sonor 8"x14" Bronze Snare NEW somewhere recently for $1,200.00

His sound is muffled with the low end rolled off to produce more of a slap (at least on "Lateralus" that's what it was.) I haven't listened to anything after that. I can't really stand Maynard anymore. I saw Tool when they first got signed, and I still have the promo/demo CD from back then, and I loved them through the 90's, but it just got to the point where I lost interest in them.

First off: Im not trying to recreate DC's kit. I want 3 more toms. Second... I would get 2 jobs... but I'm in a science research program at school, half my summer is at school/lab. My dad is letting me work at hsi office, which has very nice pay (about $10 an hour). the hardware thing... 600 SERIES AHRDWARE IS SO F***ING EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!! But I guess your right... Ill have to look for a while to check and see wut sites have the best prices... So far Interstate music has the best ($385 for a 24" kick). And yea... there is something about Maynard I don't really trust... his lyrics are kick ass, and the rest of the band are great players... but something doesn't seem quiet right about em. And for electric drums. I'm thinking of trying to save up for next summer to get a Handsonic. I first heard it on a documentary about naked people (HBO has fucking weird documentaries... (and it wuznt worth it... the ppl were either old chicks or dudes... last time I watch any "HBO Original Documentaries"). Then I saw it on Sam Ash. Then I saw it on the DC website. I tried it out once, its really nice. On ebay I can get one for less than $600.

This si the set I want:
Bass drums: Two 24x17.5
Toms: 8x8, 10x9, 12x10, 13x11, 14x12, 16x14,18x16(floor tom)
Snare: The force 3005 doesn't really have much a variety in terms of snares. I want to test what sounds better: the steel snare or the maple snare.

ANyone know where I can get these parts for cheap? Interstatemusic.com has the best deals I've seen so far. Also, I'm looking for good hardware prices. I really like the DW 5000 pedals.

and btw Tim... my drum set is a Titan. I bought it for $150. And now one of the toms is warped... I dont think many people r gonna want to buy it.
