Hat STYLE. Not contents.
Hey fellow clinicticians. (Ok, that word was ridiculous; let's not try that again.)

I just finished mixing a new song. Drums in this one are a new set of samples that I garnered from a friend's kit using my DR-1 (As well as my old randomized drum machine)

As always, your feedback is appreciated.

I like it dude. I'm gonna have to go to my favorite search engine to look up some of the words but I think it's got a lot of truth to it. Always liked the songs you do, they got their own sound. Keep rockin man.

Thanks!

Always a good thing when I'm using big enough words that people have to look 'em up right? :D (I actually have a friend who frequently lauds Bad Religion for doing just that!)

Nice song, I like it. Very interesting atmosphere and mood. I think the vocal performance could use a little more energy, but they definitely work well the way they are, I'm just being picky.

Thanks!

I can see what you're saying FtM. Striking that balance between singing well, and doing it energetically is always tough!

Good Jorb steve!!!

Sounds good. Definitely one of the best ones of yours i have heard in my time here.

Guitars have alot of character and suit the song swimmingly.

+11

Pretty Decent.
Not enough bass (not sure there was even a bass in it).
I think you could take the guitars down a little bit so we could hear the vocals.
temp changes were cool and really bring the energy.
cheers

I actually had two basses! Though one of them may have not had enough low end to tell, and the other may not have had enough high end to get any definition.
Listening again, yeah, the basses could possibly stand to be a little louder.

Thanks for the feedback.

Musically a very British Invasion feel to it.

You could probably turn up the lead vocal up a good 3 dbs or so. The guits are covering them a little bit.

There's a keyboard part that starts in the second verse (~:30). It's a perfect sound for the mix. But it's too quiet. I'd lower the guitar on that side when it comes in and raise the keyboard level.

Snare's a little loud. Just a little.

I think double tracked vocals in the chorus would sound cool.

I've uploaded a new mix with more bass. I'll look into your suggestions TripleM (thank you, by the way).

Yes definitely

Especially verse two. They get really quiet.

Agree

Agree again

Yes. The vocals are what's holding this song back. If you ever want a fresh perspective on the vocals, I'd love to work on 'em with you.

Dig the message of the song too.

Pretty good song, Steve. Mix-wise I would pull the guitars a little bit down, 'cos they're a bit dominant.

Thank you.

Alright, I'll try to find some time this evening or tomorrow to tweak the mix with:
Louder vox overall.
Louder doubled vox on the chorus (they are there, but pretty low)
Less snare.
Less guitar.
More synth.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Really reminded me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for some reason... Anyway, it sounds good but it seems like its missing a lot of hi and low dynamics. Seems like there's this whole mass of mids and some highs and lows here and there but not enough. The bass needs to be more bassy and some bite from the hats and cymbals would probably do the trick. But than again... Maybe its just me.

New mix is up with more vocals (especially the doubled melody, especially on the chorus), less snare, and more synth.

Let me know what you think.
