I saw a new ribbon mic from Octava at GC last week. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with it yet and would they like to share an impression of these things?

It's wiser to buy an Oktava microphone from www.oktava.com
(The Soundroom) as they are hand selected to perform properly.
Guitar Center Oktava's vary in quality or lack thereof.

I don't agree but in this case the Sound Room has what appears to be a good price on the ML-52 at $379. No shock mount yet. Hmmm, this looks like a really cool mic.

philboyd, I went though about 10 cardiod capsules at GC to find
the "best one", and none of them "matched" for the Oktava MK-012. (Three were fairly close)
One of the microphone bodies didn't produce any output either
out of the three or four I checked. YMMV.

If you have the time, inclination to sort them out AND to hope that
it will either break within the 30 day return policy, or work for
years without a problem-go for it.
If and when my Oktava craps out it'll go straight to The Sound Room for replacement or repair (good excuse to get the Lomo!).
Seems a bit like Russian Roulette otherwise!

What the hell, Philboy, Guitarrgh Center is showing ML52 for $399. At that price point, the Sound Room is annhilating them. You get better quality control *and* the price. Of course, GC will match or beat the price, but who cares? Call Taylor Johnson. I can probably get the mic from GC for $200-$250, but in this case, I would rather pay the nice pro.
