I really like that kind of stuff
nice atmospheric oldschool sound too

Pleasant tune. Overall sounds nice with the exception that the vocal is completely buried (It almost sounds like there's something wrong with the recording, they're that distant). What file format is your site playing? Mp3s?

I tell ya, I have no desire to go back to tape, but cool if you like it. Just curious what did you record the original tracks on?

Thanks, i mixed the vocals kind of low for that track as a stylistic choice (reference the opening verse of 'wonderboy' by the kinks or 'you didnt have to be so nice' by lovin spoonful). Mixing in mono, the vocals seemed to work better either upfront or buried (i tried upfront vocals on 'ripple and wind' and they kind of jumped out funny). Mono is more front/back depth oriented, ive learned. The other tracks should sound more upfront -- you were talking about the first track, right? Anyway, i used a teac 80-8 1/2" 8-track and mixed to an ampex 440, full-track mono.

I listened to a couple of tunes.

The vocals get lost in all the reverb.

Performances are all fairly loose.

Mixes are pretty narrow.

The low midrange of everything is pretty crowded and messy.

Terrific songs but I'm not too fussed on the mix - and too percussive up front.
I'm glad it was ripple & whined rather than wind!
Terrific performances - I like the looseness but a wide stereo image would really enhance the psych in your pop.
I love mono & have a few classic peices of psych that are mono mixed.
I haven't heard too many good mono mixes lately - it's just not as easy as it sounds & people like Spector & Wilson had a special way with reverb and ensemble recording that maximized the depth and added power.

thanks for your feedback; i hear you ... mixing stereo was not a viable option for a variety of reasons. and yeh, mono mixing is really much harder, i don't care what anyone says. it really is a whole different world. some of the original tracks were so screwed up that we had to cover it up with reverb and overdubs ... the issues would be more transparent in stereo i fear. we went for the feeling over technical issues (there were certainly some sessions that none of us can remember very well).
