So I have this problem. I need more preamps, right now I have a DMP3, a Bellari tube pre, and 8 channels on a Mackie 12DFX board.
I also have two Art Tube MP's which I only use as line amplifiers on some amps.
Anyways, I'm not happy with this setup because I would rather not use any of the other pres besides my DMP3. They work fine, but the DMP3 is so much cleaner and has much more gain.
So I thought I would buy some new pres, however I always come up with the same problem, either I am faced with buying junk or have to shell out at least $500 for something like a used M audio octane. Which I might do.
But that begs the question, what about units like the Firepod? I hear those are pretty good pres, and I can pick up one of those for $300 used AND at the same time double my inputs to 16 tracks instead of the 8 I have with my Delta 1010.
What direction do you think I should go in? Are the pres in these interfaces comparable to something like the DMP3 pres? I could be happy with that quality, which is why I wanted to buy the M Audio Octane which I hear has DMP3 pres.
