New Pickups

Well i picked up my 88' usa Ibanez saber at the shop festerday, i had all the pickups yanked out, put a Seymour dimebucker in the bridge and a dimarzio fast track1 in the neck and left the middle slot empty.(and new 3 way, output jack, and a basic setup) Sounds pretty good. The dimebucker doesent have as much gain as i thought it would but, its a very smooth and clean pick up. A major improvment. Its like haveing a new guitar! Now i can give my tendonitis infested left hand a break from the mighty 7string and return back to the sixstring.

I tried most of big-name-badass-gutarist signature pickups, and you know what ?

Buy small magnet pieces ( furniture lock mechanism ), thinnest wire, and just wind it until impedance of 6-8 kOhms.

You will be suprised.

Todays pickups are machine winded, very uniformly.
If you wind it by hand, crosswinding will occur - this gives rich upper harmonics needed for good distorted sound.
When you finish winding, drop coil in hot wax to block wire movement - such pickup,because loose wires act like microphone and cause feedback.
