New original "Spell Over You"

Re-tracked the guitars, vocals, brought up the overheads. Probably did a few other things that I can't remember too.

The main thing is the guitars. Are those guitars playing the power chords better? Now, I find them a little over-powering, but it could be because I gor used to the other wimpier sound.

Thanx for all the help so far.

SPELL OVER YOU

is this a second mix? or the same link as the initial post? I listened to whatever was linked in the first message.
i didn't wanna read other people's post before listening to the song.

Bass seems like it could be a little silkier in the low end. I really dig the tone and the balance. The kit sounds fuckin awesome, that snare is bangin and the kick is making my nuts flinch! Rudiments are flippin solid. Perhaps bump the OH up a hair or tenderly compress it for some extra swell n wash. The guitars would definitely smack my face harder if they were doubled. Maybe double and boost/retain more low end on the dubs. There are several parts where the reverb is more noticable on the vocals, but that's more than likely due to the rests. I'm really digging the TONE and level of the vocals, the only thing I would say is compress just a bit more for more of that "rrrRRRRAAAUGHH!!!!":p Personally, I would layer some extra vocals in the "chorus" section(s) either in harmony or simply a higher octave with more breath. it almost sounds like there is a dub at the "before I find myself" part.
I dig the accents on the guitars in the second verse section. funky rhythmic scrapage. :thumbs up:
Middle solo/melody has gotta come up for sure. I feel like that's gotta scalp me before the next verse. perhaps get a long reverb and tuck it under for some extra butter?
I dig the vocal dubs later in the track. (Funny its almost exactly as I "heard" it the chorus section, just less breath.)
I feel the melodic/solo guitar line should be panned a little further left, and definitely be brought up.
Totally dig the ending.
This is a sick ass track, man. Fire, as one might say. Seriously super swick bruh.

-edit-
didn't realize i was so late in the thread..:eek:
Thanx a lot, Ill. Yeah, you heard the right version, I replaced the track, so all links lead to the same version.

I really appreciate that detailed ;critique. I actually haven't listened to this since posting it, so when I do a final re-mix, I'll come back to this thread and take all comments into account.

Thanx again.

I really like the break tempo change up and the beatle-esque harmony within the change up!

Wow man, you are seriously paying attention, I love that!

I like this one. I'd like to feel dynamics from the guitars and vocals to match the nicely punchy drums. I played your mp3 through a compressor at 3:1 with 40 ms attack. That lifted the attack of the vocal and the guitars. So, if it was my recording I'd do that to the vocal tracks and guitar tracks to make them a bit punchier. I'd possibly go more aggressive than that on the individual tracks but the drums don't need it so going too strong on the whole mix makes the drums too much.

Thanks, it's not hard to pay attention to a great song! I think the tone of the drums is what sealed the deal for my attention on this one, although I really try to provide an objective opinion to anything I've listened to thus far from this forum. Rami knows whats up with that drum tone.
Ey yo RAMI, what kinda effin kit you using mang? Seriously this sheit is POPPIN.

Yeah. that was some good shit right there.

I'll be re-visiting that post when I re-mix.

As well as this one:

More good shit. This is the kind of advice that makes people improve. Whether I end up keeping anything I tried from what people suggested, just the fact that it's detailed and precise.

Definitely got to work on my vocal sound overall.

Thanx buddy.

It's a set of Tempus, which are fibreglass. Snare has an Emperor coated on top, Ambassador on the bottom. Mic'ed with an Audiotehcnica ATM63HE. I have a D-112 in the kik, and 2 AKG c1000's as overheads.

:eek:Tempus.......droool....
ATM63HE, very nice choice. I'll definitely have to grab one or two of those at some point. D112... should've guessed with the girth of the kick. nice choice for OH! I've never used that mic before. I would also have to guess you have some pretty nice cymbals to go with that sick ass kit.
You should really check out a plugin by Audio Damage called Rough Rider. Free nitey nine!!! It's one of the coolest sounding sw compressors I've heard. Period. Don't expect to be very clean afterward. ;)
Also check out the MOLOT compressor. Vlad Sound i think..

Cool song! I agree on thickening up the panned guitars a bit. I get a "Chili Peppers" / with a tone of "Offspring" - I mean this in a very good way! Don't get me wrong, it's very original sounding and has a great edge that grabs your attention - and keeps it throughout. Nice job writing, well executed production!!!

Meh, I'm used to them. But it's an over 20 year old kit that's been in and out of a hundred trucks, trunks, and vans. As long as I keep relatively new skins on them, they sound good.
ATM63HE, very nice choice.
Yeah, I have 3 57's, which all sound different. I tested all 3 57's against the ATM and I found the 57 that sounds best on my guitar amp. Out of the other 2 57's and the ATM, the ATM sounded the best out of them on the snare. Great, cheap mic.

Hey, I'm a huge RHCP fan, though I don't try to sound like them. But if the influence is there, I'll take that as a compliment.

Thanx a lot guys!

Hey Rami - missed this one somehow. You went and did it again with the drums - they're great as ever. Not my fave of your songs, but good all the same. I'm sure you've got all the technical help you need, but I know how much you love having multiple posts on page 1, so here's a bump! Nice job, mate.

Hehe...Well, I've gotten over the embarrassment of it, so now I have both my threads right at the top of the page. :D

i was thinking lenny kravitz meets the toadies. very cool song!

are you going straight in w/ the bass or mic'ing an amp? sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Cool. I like Lenny. Don't know the Toadies, though. I got to check them out.

Yeah, active bass straight into to my interface. Compress and EQ afterwards.
