New original song. How are the drums specifically?

It's hard to be objective about the drums after you asking us all to get out our magnifying glasses and examine them (perhaps it would have been better to put the song up for comment and get unbiased views on the drums) but, apart from a few hesitant kicks at the beginning, I thought you did a good job on the playing. In terms of the effects, I thought the dry version suited the song better than the effected one.
Thanks.
I really liked the snare sound on the first version, but the reverb on the later mixes is of the wrong character - it's more like a slapback single repeat delay which mkes the drums sound harsh, rather than relaxed. A touch of medium hall reverb with the brightness wound off a bit would have sounded more pleasing, IMO. Bass drum still too boomy, as Greg said. Good effort, though. :)

It is a stereo, single-repeat delay. As it stands, I mostly just have the FX that came with Reaper and the few I've programmed myself.

Thanks.

That's fine, every one of us has limitations enforced by lack of gear. :) Having said that, a reverb of some sort, either natural or digital, is an absolute must. A sweet reverb sounds natural to the ear and can make such a difference to a track. Keep it up, though. :)

Has an Elliot Smith sound to it (I LIKE Elliot Smith). Especially the vocal. Maybe I missed it but how did you mic the kick? I know you had a D-112 but was it just on the front head, inside the hole if there was one, etc? The drums sound good for the mics you had on them.

I could probably get a good sound out or the built-in ReVerb, but I'm biased towards my DIY one. :D

The tip of the mic is inside the hole.
