Spent the last few evenings on this.... Pulled out the old samplers that I own...They are almost getting to the point of being "vintage" now... Might as well put them to use..

Lots of old fun 80's sounds.:)

Anyways.. I decided to make an 80's tune..

Vocals are still rough, although, I might actually keep them, since I am getting used to them..... Lyrics mean nothing... Just words thrown together...

6 hours of programming in this one..... No arpeggio presets, or pre-programmed sequences.. I did this one from scratch.... Every frickin' note:o

It was fun... But Tiring.

Lots and Lots of Midi Tracks..

Equipment..

E-Mu Emulator II+ HD Sampler (Circa 1984-87)
Ensoniq EPS 16 Plus Sampler (Circa 1990)
Boss Dr-770 Drum machine

Let me know what you think.

Thx

Joe

OUR SONG

Streaming this off NWR right now... before you posted :) (link was on NWR's front pg)

Reminds me a lot of New Order, crossed w/Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The year was "1986", to be exact. I'm sittin in my friend's older bro's Plymouth Sattelite; we're rocketing up the freeway at 100mph w/out seatbelts... to see our National Champion girls basketball (USA Today) team play a game... FRANKIE G.T.H... "The Hooters", "New Order"... a lot of good synth stuff... but thankfully no Depeche :)

Brought back some nice mem's, Vox. Thanks!

The song was really cool... good driving music. Lyrics a bit scratch but heh... that's what happens w/mine all the time... start singing some dumbass, meaningless scratch lyric--and you get used to it

...not that your lyric is "dumbass" or anything :D

Keep 'em coming, man. Your stuff is great.

LMAO!!!

You made my day...

I was actually going for a New Order sound when I did this!!!!.. Seriously.. I was even talking to Cordura21 on my chat the other day about doing a New Order style tune...

Thanks!

I love the retro sound. Makes long for my college days when Milwaukees Best was eight bucks a case and the chics were even cheaper. I just might bust out the old parachute pants....hmm? Love the 80's arpeggios...must have drove you nuts doing everything.

NICE!!!!

I dig it man as I do all your tunes. You've got the 80's sound down to a T on this one.Drums and keys sound exactly like the tunes from that era.Nice backing harmony vocals.

Good job joe!

gag me with a vintage sampler, it's like, so not the valley for sure :D I put on my thin tie for this one!!!:D This stuff wasn't my bag back then, but i heard enough of it residually to know that this is dead ball's accurate, even the vocals........ RAD dude!!!!!!!! TOATALLY TUBULAR!!!:D

sleep is fast and danger, must go bed now

thank's vox!!!!!

Peace

Rick

oh yeah... i just got blasted back to 86'. Mullet and all. Great job. You really nailed the style. what a trip!

amazing job..........this is spot on early 80s...........

very intricate...........hats off

Great 80s sound! That's very cool. I might need to get my daughter band to do this. I can see a bunch of exctasied out kids dancing for about an hour to this. Really cool.

Great tune. this type of music allways hits me in a good way. Maybe life in the eighties wasn't so bad afterall.

Too cool dude!!

Thanks everyone...

As much as I love listening to a hard rockin' Metallica or AC/DC album, there has always been a side to me that wants to do the New Order/ Depeche Mode thing..

This song was really fun to do, and it opened my eyes to see what the "cheezy" (as some people tend to call them), synth bands used to go through to make one of there recordings.

It's alot of work, and alot of screwing around,.. Layer upon layer of sound... I think I have about 3 different lead things going on in this song, see if you can find them......

Another thing was loading in samples into these old machines... .. Takes like 1-3 minutes per sound...Not to mention about 5 minutes for my Emulator to boot Up.... (The sounds are on 5.25" disks...LOL)

When I mixed this I tried to give it an 80's mix.... lots of compression on the drums, and the snare buried... almost underneath the bass drum

I learned alot about my Pro Tools doing this song.... I never used the midi this extensively until now....

I'm gonna do a few more of these..... Maybe a 80's synth pop EP :)

Thanks for listening Guys....

Feel free to comment on the mix etc...

Joe

Ok, 80's music I can live with, as long as we don't start wearing 80's clothes/hair or start dancing again like back then. ;)
No, really, sounds great!

What, you don't like acid wash jeans and pink Varnet shirts and lines scribed in the closely cropped side of the hair, although the front of the hair hangs over the eyes?

:D

Thanks!!!

you know, with just a *few* changes...if someone spun this at a club....I'd dance to it. hehe.

the ultimate compliment right, mr. dj?

Kick ass! Finally some new 80's music! Great job VOX..

Makes me want to start carrying around my boom box again....

Real good job as usual. Not my favorite genre so I couldn't get into the song itself. Liked the drop-off ending.

If I were you I'd retrack the vox, Vendor. :D. Some of the notes that are held for a long time have just the slightest bobble to them.

I wish I could produce music at this level. Good job.

Trip...

Thanks "M"...

My thoughts too on the Vocals... I want to be lazy and keep them, but my brain tells me I should redo them.... Oh, the joy of sitting on the fence....:D

I will most definately redo them.. thanks for listening!!

I friggin hate it when my brain starts thinking. :) Causes too much extra work.

Real Nice theme and melody!
I can hear several different influences at times.
The "dual" interacting melody lines is very Depeche

A fine recording and mix.
The voices sit in the right place but after listening I can understand why you will retrack them. And when you are done they will probably sound alot different than this.

Its nice to hear a Vox tune ANYTIME :p

Don't make us wait too long for another!
