Folks,

I did this song... My wife hates it... which is okay.
But I kinda like it... it's crunchy.

It's a short instrumental at the moment, but I'm thinking of extending it and adding lyrics. Does it stand okay as an instrumental, or does it need some lyrics to "go" somewhere? I'm thinking the latter... needs lyrics.

Also, it's the first time I used ACID... I don't think I'll be using it again, but it was fun tinkering with the program... I just don't like looping stuff. It's too easy, and doesn't carry the same spirit as playing it all the way through (at least for me - NOTE: Acid users, please, take no offense to my opinion)... but it's like I can play one tiny measure and loop it all over the place... Although, I think it'd be cool for people who just want to make some music and have no time to really fudge with doing retake after retake.. but I got time.

Okay, so the song is called "Kapisanan Magmartsa (Remix)" and you can find it here: http://mp3.com/smartapple

Just gimme comments that you can think of - `bout the mix, if it sucks or not... etc.

If you're wondering about the name... I did that to irritate my wife cuz she hates the song so much because she says it's too weird... I thought if I made the title in Tagalog (Filipino) that would just put her over the top :D brat=me. "Kapisanan Magmartsa" directly translated means "Society Marching".

Sheesh. Long post for such a short song.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Sitting here in the studio drinking beer.....

Hey, I like crunchie!! I hear tale tale nonexistant synth lines in there! heh, yea, I like the track.

That one really rung my bells! Last time I heard crunchy like that was S8-N's "Disgruntled Worker Anthem".
It needs vocals for sure.
The feeling I get for a topic of any lyrics attached to this is related to a vision in a monster movie from the early 80's (I think) called "The Funhouse" where the monster of the flick (just an ordinary guy with an amazingly hideous deformity, working as a roadie for a carnival) gets crushed in a pair of large gears (like those on an automotive starter/flywheel, but much larger and supposedly made from wood; transmission for some carnival ride) at the end. This being metaphorical to being drawn in, chewed up and spit out by a system over which you have no control.

that was great...yeah, vocals, but not the generic thrash ones.....maybe some doubled or tripled normal ones that change pitch periodically from chipmunk to godzilla with lots of verb?....just a thought....gibs

So chunky you can eat it with a fork. And man, that drum sound is happening.

No, I wouldn't say it was too weird, I would say it is just weird enough. As far as adding lyrics, I would say maybe lyrics or if not, for sure some kind of change, bridge, middle eight, or whatever, then slam back into the du,du du,du,du du- with the beat dropped hard. Anyway, I'm ranting, but I liked it. There were some cool sounds in there, and to reiterate the guys, crunchy. And, oh yeah, I never use ACID or acid either, really........Ray J

SINTZ, thanks for listening, man... you mean the little almost silent connective clicks between measures... yah... I hear em too :)

drstawl, hey, I remember that movie... vaguely... Didn't the bearded lady go to his circus cabin and give him a little loving, and then yelled at him for some reason? I remember that movie disturbed me a bit. I was young when I saw it. Well, I added the vocals to it... sounds creepy.

gibs, I added the vocals... I stayed away from the chipmunk thing though :) I just sound like the devil, or so my wife says as she cringes begging me to make it stop... Actually, she listened to the whole song yesterday, and I think she's just too prideful to admit she kinda digs the song...

Kaputo, thanks man... chunky, crunchy, tasty.

Ray J, I didn't really add anything to the rhythm of the song from beginning to end, but I did double it to extend it to twice it's length (sounds like a penis enlargement SPAM email), but yeah, "I doubled the length and it only took me a few minutes!" and then I added the vocals and then put a crazy solo in the middle... I just went whacky with the guitar solo... I did it in one take and really wasn't thinking about it... I just wanted it to be fast... and hopefully sound like a thoughtful, yet thrashy guitar solo... then I put the little doubled up riff at the end of the solo to seg-way (spell that?) back to the vox.

If you all want to give me some input on the new mix, please have a listen to it: http://mp3.com/smartapple

reminder: it's called "Kapasinan Magmartsa (Remix)".

I like it... reminds me a little of crunchy King Crimson... good with or without milk...

Me, I just loveACID -- I tried doing stuff with loops before in Cakewalk, trying to get them to match tempos and get the sequence set to the right tempo... horrible, and it made me give up. With ACID I can do wonderful things in seconds. I find it inspiring.

Alchuck, thanks for listening :)
I used to listen to King Crimson alot... well actually, one song over and over... remember "Elephant Talk"? I loved that song... I remember seeing KC play that song on SNL and he did that cool thing of strumming the strings about the neck nut.

Anyways, don't get me wrong on that ACID thing... I think it's an awsome program - just not my style... actually it has some nice processing features that my current multitracker doesn't have, so I'm sure I'll probably use ACID for some "elements" of some of my future songs. I can never have enough tools.

Teddie,

I sure do remember "Elephant Talk." Have you heard any of the newer stuff from the mid-90's (Thrak) or the newest stuff, just out this past spring and going-on-tour this fall (The ConstruKction of Light)? Great stuff. I'm going to see 'em at the Fillmore in October...
