RAMI

This is a tune I did about 2 years ago, originally. I just re-did the drums and lead vocals. I just want to file this and move on, so I'd like to know if the levels are OK.

Thanx for any help in advance.

SAVE YOU NOW

THis work sensationally RAMI.
The only thing I could suggest is that the WHO bvox might be just a little too loud or forward.
Great separation and EQ work.

Thanx Ray. Don't even know if I like this tune. I have trouble listening to stuff I did 2 months ago, let alone 2 years ago. I just wanted to finish it because it's one of my last older tunes that was lying around un-finished. I'll bring down the "Who"s a bit if they're too loud. Thanx buddy.

Yeah. That is some quality work.

Rayc is probably right about the "who"s being a bit overwhelming. I like how it sounds, but relative to the rest of the music surrounding it, it's a bit much.

I remember and like this song. Love the guitar tone and the vox seem fine to me. Bass is flat-out kick-ass.

My only nit, and it pains me to say this, is the snare. :o

It's loud enough, but it seems kind of distant and not as crisp as usual.

I know you minimized your mic setup, but I'm thinking you've lost some of your snare pop compared to when you were close miking it. Listen back to your Posse Comitatus CD - in particular "Zip it Up" - all of those songs have the Rami snare sound that I personally look for and love. The snare jumps out, but it's not too loud. It's very clean and present without being obnoxious at all. To me, these new OH only drums tracks are missing that. :o

Thanx alot Greg. Don't be pained to say it. This is the reason I post tunes.

I agree with you about the snare on this tune. I'm not sure I agree about it concerning all my "newer" drum tracks. For this tune, I tuned my snare down a bit, and I think that's why I lost that crispness. I probably shouldn't have fucked with the tuning on it. I also have more reverb than usual on it, which might not help.
I think (?) the crack is there on the the track I did for "Hard to Handle" for example, if I'm not mistaken, though I might be. Problem with this tune is that when I did bring in my snare track (I still close mic it, just haven't been using it), I thought the snare got too loud, no matter how little I brought it in. If you find there's room to bring the snare up, I can easily bring in the snare track.

Thanx man, I'll definitely give this another listen, and possibly bring in the snare track and see what happens. I'm not married to this 3-mic thing, which is why I still mic the snare just in case.

Listening to "Hard to Handle" right now......

Yeah the snappy crispness is there, so you're right about it probably being a tuning and reverb thing on this new track. But even still, the HTH snare while sounding better, doesn't have that "pop" presence I'm trying to describe. Maybe it's just a familiarity thing that's throwing me off. I'm used to your snare sounding a certain way, and I'm not hearing it anymore, so I'm perceiving something as being wrong. Your new drum tracks most definitely DO NOT sound bad. The snare is just different. On a positive note, you get an incredible image of the kit from just the overheads. My overheads don't sound nearly that good, but I'm working on that. ;)

Yeah try just nudging the close-mic track in there and see what happens. I think you have room for it.

Thanx man. I should probably always have the snare track in there, just to get it more in-your-face. You got good ears for these things and I really respect your opinion. I'm going to re-mix it.

Thanks dude. Same with me. I don't mean to get gay and sappy, but when I first got here your stuff was mainly what I looked to for inspiration to get better. Your home-recordings don't sound like home-recordings and that's my goal. And since I've been here I've heard a lot of stuff, and you are still the man as far as I'm concerned. While we play fundamentally different types of music, I still got nothing but respect for your playing and recording abilities.

Yeah "in-your-face" is how I'd describe your usual sound. It's in-your-face without being too much. It's like a stiff jab, but not a full knock-out punch. :D

Thanx Chili. I learned almost everything I know here. I'd be embarrassed to put up the first mixes I brought to this place.:o

Sounds great Rami :)!

Vocals the highlight for me along with the wah-ish guitar part and the "wise old guy in the sky" break...cool. Lots 'o' parts to keep it moving.

The parts with the fast bass run (not the descending funky part but the other one) reminds me of led zep...pretty tight dude. I have nothing to offer :o :).

Thanx alot, The Heatster. I think I know the Zep tune you're talking about, but can't place it. It's one of their more acoustic tunes.

Thanx for the comments, buddy.
