I recently bought a new MXL 960 and I'm impressed with it's tonal range and ability to preserve the bottom end even when backing away from it.
After one session it started to hum, breakup and crackle.
The 960 using it's own power source and I noticed that I forgot to turn the phantom power off on my Mackie mixer.
I've determined that the cabling, device chain, etc. are fine.
In order of favorite mics I own:
Equitek E-200
Equitek E-100
Shure 7b
SM57 - amps only
MXL v69m
The 960 will go to the top if I can figure out the problem.
Would pumping phantom power through this mic create this problem?
