Hi all!!

I'm new to this forum. I am the proud owner of a MRS-802CD , and I'm posting one of my band's (Dosis Vital) new songs (old school funk-rock in Spanish...). The band went by the name of Malabar for a brief period of time (still need to change that). I hope to hear some feedback - I will start reviewing some of the other songs that I find here as well. Want to learn more about mastering!!!

Nice groove. Good vocals. Seems as though everything is right down the middle, though. You might want to think about spreading things out a bit. It almost sounds as though it was recorded in mono. I'd like to hear more drums and bass for this kind of tune, but they might come out more if you panned things a bit and let the drums and bass out from under the pile. Good playing and, like I said, very nice groove.

Thanks for the review!

Hi Rami:

I need to practice my mixing skills - I do think that the bass and drums could use some more enhancing. I'll try you panning suggestion and see how it works out. I am planning on trying out DAW software for mastering - still not sure what to use. I have an old Cakewalk Pro 9.0 package lying around here which I've never used. I may give it a try...

Thanks for listening and for the suggestions!!

Good performance all around. These are excellent musicians. I like the L/R interplay between the guitar and organ that happens occasionally. Hot guitar player. I agree with RAMI about generally spreading things out more. In spots where the arrangement highlights the funk guitar rhythm things get kind of shy in the lower mids. Bass sounds good when it's doing its low repeated part, but when it goes up high it gets very thin - fatten that guy up! A little vocal sibilance but it's pretty well masked by the mix. Really good drumming but the sound of the set has that all too common veil of too much processing, IMO. Overall, mix-wise I'm hearing it needing a little more emphasis in the 300-800 Hz range, and a little less in the 3-5 kHz range.
