Soon I will probably be upgrading my system. I searched for stuff on motherboards and I couldn't get much. Pretty much I just need to know what to look for. I've looked around on Asus' web site and I don't understand much of what the differences are, it seems like anything will work just about. So if you know where I can read more info on it that would be cool.

I'd be upgrading to something around a 2.4 GHz, (maybe I will wait till the hyperthreading stuff around 3.0 get's a little cheaper), with DDR ram to run XP with Sonar and Reason.

Another thing, is there a big difference between a 7200rpm hardrive and a 5200rpm drive. Is it that noticeable?

-Thanks

Yes. 7200rpm is the new standard for IDE drives. Don't bother about the 5400rpm drives, they're hardly any cheaper anyway.

If you want to know more about motherboards there are dozens of hardwaresites out there with tons of info. www.anandtech.com, www.tomshardware.com etc, etc, etc. Be prepared to learn a lot.

Check in the BBS at www.overclockers.com

Read up on the different chipsets that are availible (SiS, Intel) and what differs them from eachother. Then it's really all a matter of features.

I'm also upgrading to a P4 2.4GHz, and I just bought an Abit BE-7
