new mobo won't find soundcard

hey all, i upgraded my pooter with a Asus A7n8x Deluxe model and a XP2500 AMD Barton which has an nforce chipset. it works great with my geforce vid card. this mobo also comes with a 6 channel built in sound. which sounds great BTW,but i'm not able to use it to multitrack record.

so i took my Delta Audiophile 24/96 and put it in there with the latest(?) 5027 drivers and nothing.

i have XP PRO and when i run find new hardware it can't find it. the drivers fail to install cause when i go to the audio section of control panel i still get the Nforce audio choice. but no other!!

hmmmmmm,anybody seen this or have a way around it?

Make sure the card is seated firmly into the slot. You might also try a different slot.

In the worst case, either the audiophile or the motherboard is damaged. In the best case, you just haven't properly seated the card.

thanks slack,ok will re-seat the card. and i was wondering if i turn off the built-in sound on this motherboard? i'm at work so i can't do it now.jw :confused:
 
You shouldn't have to disable the onboard sound, and that wouldn't explain the card not being detected. Good luck.

well i re-seated the card, and disabled the on-board sound since my SC wouldn't work anyway. i do a hardware search and i don't get a choice of a soundcard in the menu to point to my driver folder. hmmmmm, what a pain:mad:
 
So when you look at the device manager your cards not listed...
Maybe plug and play is disabled in bios?

I don't know.
I have the same motherboard (love it by the way, and excellent on-board audio, not for recording home audio. But for multimedia playback, comparable or better rated than the first audigy series cards)

I use a delta 44, your computer should have recognized there was a new device.

You might want to make sure in the device manager if it's listed or not, if it's listed remove it and restart. Once windows loads up again it SHOULD recognize the card, it's odd that it's not.

also check the bios for plug and play options and make sure that's enabled.

And no you shouldn't have to disable on-board audio. They should be able to co-exist.

thanks Nos, yea i thought i shouldn't have to disable the sound. come to think of it the plug n play may not be turned on. i also have a dialup modem that is not working. anywho,i'm at work so i can't check now but will later---. ;)
 
well PNP was on automatic in the bios.and i took the time to upgrade everything to make sure. see here:

1-bios update to 1002a
2-all in one drivers
3-USB 2,0 drivers
4-SP1(yesterday)
5-i uninstalled the yellow bomb i had and re-booted and re-installed the SC software.
6-then it says software installed butt---the SC may not work properly.

yup, their right. no workee still. i don't get a choice i n the audio menu either. hmmmm :mad:

i remember this SC was not real happy with my old Abit board(also used XPPRO) but it definitely worked then.

onward thru the fog...
 
I really think you have a serious problem at this point. You should really be seeing something. Try the audiophile in another machine...my guess is that you'll find the same thing.

yea it's hard to believe it quit working from one machine to the next. i haven't put it back in the old machine yet cause i'm outa space and cable length by my old pooter(long story). i don't believe it just crapped out. i've sent a trouble ticket to M-audio. maybe they know something i don't. i believe it's a setting in this ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo.

hey nosferous, i got a response from M-audio and they said remove everything in the device manager under sound cards,video,etc. then re-load the latest 24/96 drivers. did you do this to get your SC working ON YOUR 44? or did your computer just see it when you installed it?
 
Does you get any info from the BIOS when booting up...a list of PnP devices or anything? See "multimedia controller" or similar in that list?

I'm really starting to think that your card might be hosed. Before you go screwing with the device manager (and don't remove video, BTW), try the audiophile in another computer and see if it's detected. If it is, then your XP installation is a little whacked (which in this scenario is the best outcome).

yo slack,finally got a chance to work on this thing:

well i took my SC out of my XP driven ASUS pooter and put it BACK in my WIN2K driven ABIT pooter and it works fine. the ASUS/XP pooter don't like that SC. BTW,when i took it out---my dial-up modem started working. strange---this may be a IRQ/SLOT problem.
