Not of sound mind
Hey kids,

As promised, I've updated the mix of my song, "Better," which I originally posted a couple of months ago. The following things were changed from the previous version:

1) New real drums, courtesy of Voxvendor/Voxxy Brown (he rocks!)
2) An attempt to remove some of the "clicky" pick noise from the acoustics
3) Retracked bass guitar
4) Various other minor tweaks

It should be available to download from one of the following places:
Nowhere Radio - second link
Soundclick - first link

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

I really like it! Everything sounds pretty good to me except in the little break where the bass follows the keys(?). It tends to sound like they're not in sync, maybe the bass is a bit faster. But that could be the tremelo from the keys giving that effect. Love the reverse guitar solo. Very nice!

Very nice, enjoyed the keys in it, gave it a really nice feel to the piece. Nice work :)

the kit is a big +

the new bass has that straight in sound

and old strings
i'd mic a cab

Thanks for the ears, guys!

7-string - You're probably right about the keys & bass not being entirely in sync (they are also playing rather dissonant notes at times). The effects (delay & leslie) probably accentuate any timing problems. I'll claim artistic license there and say it's intentional, as the break is supposed to represent "confusion and disarray"...or something.

Tifstorey - appreciate the compliments.

giraffe - the bass is direct. new strings, but flatwounds (which may account for the dull sound). i don't have a bass cab, but i'll mess with it.

Thanks again. I think it's about time to put this one to bed and move on.

Bass is a little thin but not horrible by any means. The vibrato on the keys makes it appear out of sync if their attack lands on a null point of the effect. Pretty good job all the way around.

The bass seems a little out of rythm at the very beginning.
And the bass over all is too loud, maybe dip some upper mids out.
Vox sound real nice.
Drums sound real nice too.
Acoustic guitars a puny sounding.
I mean theyre a little weightless, especially when everything comes in.
Aside from the overheads they seem to be the only thing carrying the stereo spectrum for this song.
So id work on that.

Good song too FWIW.

Track Rat and Finster,

Thanks for listening. I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I'll take them into account for the final mix.

I like this.
Only point of critique is that the bassline is a bit dull. I think the track could be a lot hotter with some a more clever line..

Nice solo btw!

the drums are a bit phasey bass is a bit dull but it seems to work with the mix
good job
