New mix of Disin-Bosom (metal)

I hope I added some more of a stereo feel to the song. and got it a little more in balance. It's not a song that I want the vocals in your face but I do want them up there enough so let me know what you think.

The solo was sort of an on the fly thing that will likely be retracked now that we have an idea, but anyway let me know what you think. My ears are burnt.

No there not samples, I actually was told on the last mix the drums where way to far out front (LOL) so I pulled them back and not too much either.
Well you just never know do ya.

On listening again I don't think I dropped the drums that much but I pumped up some other stuff around them.

The low end of the drums could come up a small amount, but be careful...the cymbals could overtake too much else if they come up.

I like the mix...maybe just a smidge more bottom end altogether, and it shall be fine...

Thanks dogman, I am working on how to get there. I have this thing so compressed that it is complicating matters I looked at the drum tracks and I have been compensating for the kick being where it should not be with the snare track by adding more highs to the snare. That is making the hi hat to tinny so I am in the middle of knocking down about every third kick hit (you know it's only a few hundred ). I will be calling our drummer and giving him hell I think he is the one that told me you shouldn't hit the kick and the snare at the same time, LOL. Well I am getting carple tunnel so I will take a break. A little over half way through.

This should free me up to improve the snare and hi hat sound at the same time allowing me to bring up the kick a bit with out touching the snare mix.

Nice guitar tone on this - not grainy and buzzy like some. Vocals sitting nicely - riding on the music really well. Yeah the drums are ok - better towards the end for some reason. I think Dogman's suggestions might help a bit. They sound clicky (hi-hat?) at the beginning...not sure if that's described right . Leads are cool panned side to side....The overall playing is very good nice beat and driving rhythms. Kind of ends abruptly for me on hi-if ??
I'll let you work on your carpal tunnel and look for any remixes you post later.....sounds pretty cool so far though....

If individual, do an eq boost on the lower portion of teh kick, and see if that makes it thump out a bit more...if not, try and isolate roughly where the kick is, and do teh same...boost it a couple of db in teh lower parts, and see if that helps.

I think the hi-hat is clicky because of me boosting the hi's on the snare to compensate for the kick track. My carple tunnel exersise will help me be able to re-eq the snare track and help that out I hope.

I think the drums sound better tward the end because you are thinking of where the vocals drop out and the compression on the stereo buss kicks up the drums. I wish I could make the whole mix that way but I don't think I can at this volume. I do think I can improve it though.

The drums are individual so I can boost the kick around 80-100hz. I am going to wait until I get this edit project done though. It will free me up. If I had done it before it would have totaly masked the snare or made it sound 10 inches deep.

I was thinking of starting from scratch and re-mixing but if you guys think it's in the realm I will tweek this mix.

Boosted around 80 on the kick and now I ham having a hard time getting a handle on it. Really thumping but moving the fader is like an on off switch

I think I've got it better. The kick is more there for sure and the snare.
I will have to change my mic'ing technique some next time around. I plan to bring the overheads in alot closer to loose some of the room and get a better stereo image. Also on a song like this I will be moving the snare mic more tward the rim to catch a some of the ring so it will stand out more.

Thanks Jouni. Ya I've had a hard time getting the bass to stick out. Ive panned it a hair and tried different freq' on the eq, but since it follows the guitar to a tee I haven't been able to make it as destinct as I'd like. You can sure tell when you mute the channel but, it's just wants to hide in the mix.
I'll mess with it some more I'm sure.

Noticeable difference in fidelity at 320kbs....... The bass was more audible and kick much smoother....

I'm liking the latest mix very much, everything is blending nicely but at the same time has good clarity. Snare sounds really nice.....

Well thank you very much. I did boost the bass guit on that mix due to Jouni's suggestion, but everthing else was the same. I find it hard to find a good balance between the bass and the guitar when they are playing the same thing. More so in this loud of a mix.

Thanks RayC. I just burned it and played it on some different systems and I am going to try to brighten it up a bit. It's translating pretty good from the monitors to other systems but just a little lacking in the upper mids to me.

Might bump the vocals a hair or more than likely pull down around them.

I'm getting 10 songs from a studio today that I had the individual tracks converted into wave files That will keep me busy for a while.
