I just did a faders down remix of this "old time rock and rock" piece ... and backed off considerably on the compression:

Did it work?

Thanks in advance ...

Hi, It sounds nicely done with a cracking vocal. It gets a little overwhelming towards the end in respect of one being able to make sense of the wall of sound, but that's not a major criticism. I'd have liked the guitars which you have sat either side of the vocal to have a little more bite, as the vocal sits well and I think the track would cope with it. There are are lot of dynamically similar things happening towards the end, and I'm wondering if maybe panning a couple of items out a little wider might help their delivery and just make it a touch more concise in that area. It's not a genre I'd go out looking for, but to be honest I'd listen to that kind of arrangement and enjoy it, so maybe I should get out more often. I like the old time feel with what sounds like a well considered and fresh arrangement. So aside from the small definition issue I mentioned towards the end, I think you have an impressive track here. Obviously someone else might completely disagree, as well you might, but I have listened intently and played the area I mentioned a few times using speakers and cans, but hey, we all have our own ears.

regards

Tim

Thanks for the listen and the well thought out reply, Tim!

I brought forward the background "ahs" significantly in this mix version (at the end) ... and it may be overwhelming the instrumental definition. You've given me pause for thought on my decision there.

Thanks again!

Everything sounds good to me K-Dub except the cymbals are really harsh and kind of dominate. I think they could be brought down a notch and/or EQ'd a little - whichever works best. Other than that, I reckon yer done! :)

You hit exactly on WHY I did the remix in the first place, Rob. I thought I got them better under control ... but I guess more tweaks are needed. Thanks for the comment!

What's with the phasey cymbals. Noticed that in 2 seconds.

If it were me I'd dry up the vocal. I'd raise the guitar level over on the right (I like that part and I like the tone).

Bass sounds very cool.

The backing vocals at 1:29 are a little loud. And then when they come in at 2:33 they completely dominate everything else. Like you forgot to adjust a fader.

Something strange at 2:08 on the word "both" - a pop or something.

I'm being too harsh. Mostly it's really good. Like all your mixes.

Love your voice K-dub... I would love to hear it with a less precice and more energetic backing track... no problems with the cymbols my end...
