hey guys,

Thanks to Sluice, participant, Pinky, chrisharris, mixmkr and especially Guernica for helping me with me psychosis.. :)

If your not into metal, you may want to skip this one... thanks anyway.. This also has traces of hip-hop!

I'm sure the next song will be mellow.. er.

any thoughts are appreciated as always.. rip it to shreds if you must!

Still the same straight forward/mechanical bass line, the semi-annoying/flat sounding synth part, and no fills... I think those were my suggestions (I couldn't find the original thread to be sure, but I recognized the tune).

Like the song a lot, but there are things I'm adamant about ;).

I'll catch this one tonight when I get home from work. No downloads here.:(

pump it up!!!!

i must say, CRANK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i like this alot!! to me, tunes like this are all about ENERGY!!! and this is not lacking! yeah, 10:30 sunday morning, and im groovin like a moe foe!!! i like the piccolo snare sound!! ( but i'm a piccolo lover ):D git's are fat as hell!!!!

I was wondering where this tune disappeared. Glad to see it back again :D Hmm... let's see. I hope I can remember something from last time around... Still that rather odd sound at about 0:24.. weird sound... I like those "rap-like" spoken parts at the beginning, they didn't work as well at the later parts (somewhere before 3:00). Your cymbals are very quiet, but I know you don't like them loud anyway... I would have used a bit more volume there, though. The kick sure has balls. I kinda like the snare more now, although I'm not sure if you even changed it in any way. And the guitars sure have balls, great balls :D uh-oh... that sounded wrong, but... ok... I'm off now... :D

So, good song, the rapping worked in the beginning, but sounded unsettling for me in the later parts... well, I guess I just don't like hip hop...

I hear elements of Metal, Hip Hop, House, Industrial, Synthpop, Techno, House, Fusion, Trance, Dance... Kinda' like "The Chemical Brothers" meet "The Prodigy," but sounding like none of it. A straight-forward bass line is kind of a moral imperative to make this work, and I think the "unbusy" synth stuff works. (Yes, I'm [very respectfully] disagreeing with a previous poster). Hell, even the snare is growing on me. I like it; so sue me.

I think this clinic is cool for a lot of things "sonic;" you know - Levels and Frequencies. But I also think you have to take some of the songwriting stuff for what it is...well-intentioned small talk...especially if you're doing something that doesn't really fit into a neat mold. You should be proud of this "as is," and I think if you start messing around with it to make it sound more "like" this or that, you've already lost.

Anyway, I know the last thing you probably want or need is a pep-talk from me on "artistic license," but that's my 2 cents, and here's my opinion on the tune... "THE LEVELS ARE FINE." :D :D

Oh...I've got one...How 'bout "Trip Hop"? That works for me.

When is the video coming out:) . Liked this Sami...the piccolo snare didn't bother me at all, I thought it fit pretty well. Liked the gtrs and synth also. Another great tune from you!

Sam;

Man, I love this tune. Great sound on Geetars and Synths. Vocals are really cool. The mix here is really great to me.

My only beef concerns the drums. I think the Snare is a bit too loud and metalic sounding and the Kick Drum seems a bit muffled to me. But then maybe this is how this genre is supposed to sound and it's just me.

Good job, Bro! Keep it up!

Yeah man!!
As mentioned in the PM, this is a strong one on many levels. I really like all of the elements that make this a cool song. This is one of your best IMHO..... .....and thats from a songwriting point of view.
........just wanted to say how cool I think this is.

G w/ 5 great big ballsy stars!!!

personal thought: ....this is a very conservative forum when it comes to snare sounds isnt it. Chris mentioned Chemical bros. and Prodigy......... very cool bands. ....and a very cool directional comparison....... .......has everyone heard their snares? ....sorry just blabbering.

no doubt...

I like the piano level in the beginning. I actually like the drum sound here. Unless you're going to redo with real drums, I think you've got it. Sam this is a solid mix of the track...excellent in fact for the style, which is very creative. I love the vocals....great mix. A more defined bass line would add a more supportive dimension to it, but there is a healthy low end already there IMO so it's probably preference. The fade-out could be smoother. :)

Great work Sam...This raises a few bars for sure. Let me know if you make any significant changes...this is in my Sam collection now.

nice unique work here.........i like it a lot...........very well produced, quite a bit is going on, but it doesn't get cluttered or anything........nice guitars and tone.........i like the little talking parts too........cool

Nice clean mix here. Great sounds, cool climate changes. Creative in the way it changes from the metal to the techno to the hip hop. I love that sound at the beginning (a guitar through something?).

I'm not sure about the snare. Either its too loud or it needs to be a more industrial mutated sort of sound maybe. Or maybe a mixture of both.

Anyway, all the change keeps me interested from start to finish. You are so good at that!

No complaints here. Love that break... beginning at 1:31... chords resolve to a natural... nice. Modal changes are very powerful when done right, just like that...

On a right-brain level... nothing seems to be bothering me at all about this... (you know... when something you can't really articulate kinda pops in your head to bother you...) There's nothing on a performance level, or recording/mixing level that sticks under my skin anywhere.

The only thing about it is something you couldn't do anything about without a great room/console--it does have that "digital" sound... but it's right at the top of the class, so to speak. To overcome that, you'd need some equipment/room upgrade or some serious studio time. IMO you're right at the top of what your current set-up can give you. Real drums would help...... as if you didn't know :)

Good style. Music is great. Those modal changes you put in your music (like the one described) make your songs listenable multiple times... this will make my next hr.com CD burn job.

"Your answer is still 'no'"... Can't figure out what you're "refusing" here... surely it can't be the reefer

wow this is among my faves of yours sami-a meshing of so many styles-rap-tablas-into metal-with that samicide stamp overall-A few mix comments-the vox ~:40 weren't to distinct in the mix-maybe some heavy compression or that sort of bullhorn eq sound might be cool...I thought the snare was a little loud-it seems to be dominating the mix and sort of shrinks the mix into it's space rather than vice-versa--did that make sense? But I loved the tune-and the sounds and performances were outstanding! very nice! Happy holiday's(I'll be on the island for a week!) (as to what your turning down-seems obvious from the title ehh?)

Great tune and the mix seems pretty good too. The only thing is that snare....it sounds good but it's too loud. Not much; but a bit too loud. A slight departure from your usual stuff..........I like it.
I'd like to hear a wailing guitar on the outro.

thanks for the feedback guys!

I guess I over did it with the snare.. these drums are a machine and I had planned on redoing them, but I started getting used to the sound.. On some of the music that I listen to, the snare is usually pretty loud, but I over compensated.. I definitely made the cymbals too low, but I can fix that easily.. the bass is very boring indeed.. I just used some synth bass to add some beef/meat.. The beginning guitar harmonics were played through a Boss PS-5 pitch shifter pedal.. all the synths were from a Roland XP-30, except the bass was from an Alesis QS6.1.. As far as the vocals, I couldnt decide which voice to use because I didnt like either, so I sang it both ways, and in the end, I just let them both play.. This mix is louder than usual because I started using a limiter on the mix... Not compression, just a limiter to prevent clipping.. It made the whole thing louder..

This song was just one of those things.. I wasn't even going to post it, but I figured why not..

thanks for all the great advice.. everyone was dead on with the comments.. (ya bunch of freakin drum nazis! :D)

I will fix the drums and tweak the mix more eventually.. I wont repost it though..

Anyway, I'll probably post another song before the holiday, so I will talk to you guys soon..

Time to head off to work and swing some wrenches.. It's 19 degrees outside right now.. :(

have a good one!

thanks..

keep trying B., one of these days you'll learn how to play and record. he he he he he

I liked the guitar work in this, the rap thing in the beginning almost reminded me of a methods style..... I liked your song splitting headache better though, some of the vocals in this reminded me of that song, got the Ozzy kinda voice, why did you take that song out of your list? Dont matter cause I downloaded it and still listen to it ever so often.
