Hi, I'm a new MBox/ProTools user. I've just set up the hardware and software and have been doing some basic tasks with Protools. One question I have is, will I be able to designate my MBox to be the official "audio device" of my PC? If so, how? Going through the Control Panel, I have already disabled the sound card that came with my computer. But so far, nothing is coming through the MBox from my computer except when I'm actually running ProTools.

(I got around this problem by re-enabling my PC sound card and feeding the line-out from the sound card to the MBox, but this is more of a bandage solution, and it takes up one of the 2 input channels to the MBox. So I need another solution.)

Has anyone else encountered this issue before?

Thanks,
Alex

Try this

Go to the control panel,
click on "Sounds and audio devices"
Click on the "Audio" Tab
see if you can select the default device as the Mbox.

Hope that helps.

are you just wanting all audio that plays through media player to play back through the mbox?? if the above solution doesn't work you can also just choose the mbox in media player only. Tools-->option-->devices-->double click sound devices and choose the Mbox. therefore all the normal audio sounds that play through windows (like from clicking icons or errors) won't play through the mbox and therefore won't annoy you if you have your monitors up real loud during recording or mixing.
