Anyone else notice that there's a new Masterlink OS - 2.1

They say no new features...just bug fixes.

I'm still on v1.5....

If you upgrade, does it wipe out the contents of your hard drive?

Yes... going from version 1.x to 2.x requires a wipe....

(No problem -- just back-up your playlists to cd and restore afterwards!)

Thanks, Bruce

Yeah, I guess it is as simple as that. I must have developed some mental block about this -- that a CD copy won't be the same as a rendered file on the hard disk, but it's no doubt the same thing.

I think the root of the confusion starts when I move tracks from one playlist to another. The DSP seems to go back to zero. You have to reset the parameters for the next rendering. Then when you do burn a disk, that playlist becomes a rendered file. But then when you turn the machine off, that rendered status seems to disappear -- since when you power up again and burn a subsequent CD, it appears to have to re-render the playlist. This process takes longer than when burning from an already rendered file.

ANYWAY, perhaps I've also been reluctant to upgrade since the thing works great, and operating under the theory that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' I am loathe to mess with success.

Thanks again,

spwee

Version 2 is worth the upgrade -- it allows you to save the playlist INCLUDING the DSP. It also allows tracking spliting and joining, as well, DSP processing has been enhanced....

Wow

That is pretty cool.

The question is though, HOW do you get the update CD? When I first got my machine in March, I called Alesis about five times -- they never answered or called me back so I took to leaving my name and address along with a request for the update on their voicemail. Never got a thing....

Aren't things still unsettled at Alesis?

I think they may have downloadable OS versions, but I don't have a CD burner on my computer.

Thanks,

spwee

Anybody know what bugs this version fixes that were not already fixed on version 2.01?

I download the files and have a colleague burn them for me.... I don't know if Alesis supplies them... probably, though, for a fee!

They didn't make it public knowledge, apparently.... I suspect it is DSP fixups....

They definitely added no extra features..........
