good work. 'only things that stuck out to me was a little hot on the snare, bass had just a little much treble , rythym guitar could be a tad larger. Nice sorta live porch pickers sound. :)

thanks for listening Toki....i was trying to make more room for the vocal by taking some out of that guitar, but maybe backing off the snare a little would do the trick

Wow this is a good recording. Everything sounds very bright without sounding shrill. That banjo in the beginning sounds perfect.

I like the bass and rhythm guitar sounds, vox sound clear and clean. Overall good job. Nice separation on everything, being nice and clear.

I've listened to a lot of your stuff and have always liked it. This time I feel like you have made a signifcant improvement in the recording. Very clear. Good definition. Whatever you did, keep doing it (and tell me about it!). And do it on your originals. I like your originals.

Mixmkr needs to hear this so he can hear that a banjo was not meant to sound like it's being played on Neptune .....

then Mercury, then back to Neptune again.. :) (Kick me...)

I don't know the song, but i certainly am impressed with your version. I would like the lead vocal to be at least as loud as the banjo. Didn't sound like it was on my monitors. See what others think.

Nice recording and nice mix too!

probably the best thing I've heard from you! other than the snare being a tad loud for this type of tune, it sounds great! mixmkr should dig the banjo..

Very cool tune!
Did you do this with your bro?

Everything sounds great,especially the banjo.

The only thing that didn't do it for me is the rythym git.

Is that a DI'd acoustic?
Just sounds a little weak compared to the big banjo sound.

I think you would have been better off doing the same thing with your acoustic miked.
You have such a sweet acoustic sound going.
Better fit with the banjo me thinks.:)
JMHOP

Nice clean recording,everthing sits well.

Fine stuff,
Pete

Khompewtur - thanks for checking it out man...i appreciate the comments

fprod - i'm glad you're seeing improvement....i definitely feel like i'm improving w/ every mix...so i'm glad you can tell......i'm definitely gonna get some of my new techniques working on some new material and see how it turns out........thanks

SLuiCe - thanks for checking it out....i remixed and brought the snare down a touch and the vocal up a touch.....let me know if you can tell a difference if you get around to it......thanks for the ears......

SABBATH - thanks for checking it out......i hear you on the snare....i actually took it down in this mix i'm getting ready to post....thanks for callin that out......

Pete - yup, did this with my brother......he did the low vocal parts and the banjo track....the rythym guitar isn't actually DI, but i did initially eq the crap out of it to make room for the vocal...which probably made it way too thin.....i actually went back in an un eq'd it to give it back some body.....let me know what you think if you get a chance.....thanks....

Thanks guys,

Newest mix------
1. slightly higher vocal
2. slightly lower snare
3. un eq'd the acoustic to give it back some body

Saw the word 'banjo' and had to listen - glad I did!!
This is so nice - cool octave vocals. I'm listening to the more recent post so I don't have any issues with the guitar sound - and I l-o-v-e the banjo. Must be a real one - great tone.

It's 95 degrees here - been that way all summer - and there ain't any AC in the whole country! This tune just cooled me right down. Think I'll go make some iced tea and crank this up on the balcony!

Great stuff!!

Ahhh ya...mucho bettero. Vocals sound great.

The bass is a touch boomy on the StudioPhile's. And I do mean a touch. I'd see what others are hearing. Low end is not my forte here.

The vocals feel much better now.

Man I want a banjo.... The mix sounds good on my JBL's. This is a clean tight song from here. Very nice song. The acoustic could of been balanced out a little more, too much on the left IMHO. Maybe its just ear damage-lol The vocals were great.

'all my daydreams are disasters' fucking brilliant opening line dude! five stars just for that. you're such a good songwriter. love that earthly banjo (i'm still laughing at sluice's comment).

only thing i don't like is the low voice for some reason.

i bet chris harris would like this song. where is he by the way?

Hey... this is cool!

Snare needs some meat... 250-400 somewhere in there needs some looove... little more kick drum, too...

Cool banjo... the progressions sound "harris-esque"... surely Mr. Tupelo would be flattered at the comparison... :D

Interesting you can hear the metronome in the fade... and someone getting off a chair :)

Really nice stuff!

MC Gitarz - thanks for checking it out...glad you enjoyed it.......

SLuiCe - thanks for checking back...i'm glad i got it a little better

Myx62 - I hear you on the acoustic, i'll mess with the panning a bit.....

erichenryus - thanks for checking it out....shit, i wish i wrote this song....this actually is a cover (haven't done a cover in quite a while, so i felt the urge while i still have my bro around to play banjo)....written by jeff tweedy, current lead of wilco, but from his old band, uncle tupelo.......

participant - thanks for the listen....yeah, i need to screw around with the snare, first it had too much volume, now good volume and bad presence....the typical vicious cycle that is eq and volume..:D ......thanks

duh! you told me it was a cover in your first post but while i'm listening i'm thinking.....fucking brilliant! i still think you're a very good songwriter powderfinger. i'll have to check out wilco, lot's of people up this way like them and keep telling me to listen to them.

edit....that duh was meant for me. i've done that before and someone was thinkg i was saying to them. just want to make sure you know that.

Wilco's violinist

I saw Wilco perform at the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1993 or thereabouts.

A cellist and I , a 'bud' of mine from the school met with the band afterwards, we wanted to talk to the violinist about doing a trio on their CD in one of the songs.

It was a massive smokeout, nothing more, nothing less. The violinist-fiddler was very cool but he was freaked out about his seams coming undone, so we didn't get to jam with him.

We got plastered though.

It was a good gig.

eric - gottcha man...yeah, you should check out wilco...great band

studioviols - ha...funny story, i'd still love to see them in concert....i've seen many of my favorites, but not them

Ahh,that's better!:D
Much better balance with the banjo.

Another great tune Drew.
You and your bro really sound good together, hope to hear some more from you guys.

Pete
