New Mac user trying to use garageband

Ive been using cubase and a Behringer ultragain pro 8 to do recording for the past couple years, and the quality was pretty bad.
I had to get a mac for school and am trying to use my Behringer with Garage band but im not getting any signal into my computer. I connected the ultragain pro using an optical cable.
Shouldnt it work?
 
The ADA optical out is ADAT and you are probably trying to plug it into a optical spdif port, that does not work.

You need to start looking for an firewire interface
