Hey everybody, I have a fear and i was wondering if there was any legitimacy to it. OS X Mavericks just came out. I would like to update. I'm running OS X 10.7.5 with logic pro 9 and a tascam us-800 interface, I've got an Alesis q49 midi controller. no driver trouble with anything. everything works great. however i would also like to get logic pro x which will also require the update. I guess i'm afraid of updating and not having my hardware work (or work as efficiently as it does now). What do you think guys, any thoughts?

Logic pro X will work on 10.8.4, as far as I know.
Maybe that'd be a safe middle ground?

I actually thought about updating my OS to 10.8 a few months back but decided not to because when i really started to think about it i wasn't sure if the drivers would work for that. Holy $hit glad i double checked your post I missed giant blue link the first time Spot on! That's exactly what i was looking for a second ago on that site. guess i should've started on the homepage! Yeah the best thing to do is to check the company's website for each product you own and make sure they're all compatible. Also do the same for any third-party plugins you may have installed in Logic.

Yeah, don't make such a jump from Lion to Mavericks. You'll be in compatibility hell, I'd wager.

I went from 10.6.8 to 10.9, everything Intel works except for a few free plugs. LE9, MainStage 2, and GB '11 are fine. Keyboards and controllers are good.

Went ahead and downloaded GB 10 since it was free. It installs to a separate file and doesn't overwrite GB '11. It does appear to be Logic Pro X lite--need to tinker with it some more, but there's very little info yet.

Hey I talked to Apple today and wanted to share with you guys what they said. Basically, 10.9 is a bells and whistles sort of upgrade to 10.8.5 and that if my drivers were to work fine with 10.8 then 10.9 shouldn't be a problem. He suggested that i partition my hard drive and install os x mavericks on the new partition, then set my computer to boot up off of that drive and test my interface/controllers. I thought that was a great idea.

Then i called my buddy across town that has a mac asked him about Mavericks. He said he already got the update. I grabbed my interface and jumped in the car. Hooked the US-800 to his mac book pro running OS X Mavericks and opened up LP9. I opened up my audio preferences and switched over to the US-800 and set my latency as low as possible (7.2ms on his MBP compared to the 5.3ms i was getting on my mac mini, my mini is almost 2 years older than his MBP which i thought was weird but i don't know his exact specs anyway). I plugged in a mic and hit record and everything seemed to work fine. I let it record for a while and then i played back through a pair of earbuds that my friend had handy. I did not have any noticeable problems with the interface.

I only had like an 15 minutes to test it out before i had to be home for my daughters birthday party so my experiment was a bit rushed. I feel better about making the jump now knowing that it seemed to work flawlessly with OS X Mavericks. The only party that concerned my was with the latency, i know he has an i7 and mine is an i5 with a 5400rpm hard drive. Would latency be a driver issue? It worked the first time i made the connection and everything seemed to work, but since stability is of the utmost importance obviously, i sure would've liked to been able to spend 2 or 3 hours with it as opposed to 3-4 minutes. Any thoughts?

Quite often devices and software appear to work from the outset, but issues show themselves over time.
I don't expect Tascam would put up that notice without reason.

I still say either go to ML for now, or stay where you are and wait.

The partitioning would be a great idea because you'll always have the original install to fall back on, but any time I've ever partitioned a drive it has been fully erased in the process......
Also, OSX won't let you partition the drive that you are currently booted from.
Something to keep in mind!

Incidentally, I'm not seeing any reason (compatibility aside) to upgrade to Mavericks.
Finder tabs, cloud keychain and maps with one click instead of two is about the height of the upgrade, as far as I can see.

well i decided to partition the drive and see what happens with 10.9. gonna run my copy of LP9 on it right now and test out some of my hardware with it (i'm not even sure if tascam will be updating the US-800's drivers as they do not manufacture that model any more and have updated the rest of the US product line for 10.8 but nothing has been released for the us-800 specifically since their generic OS X drivers, So long run i might have to dump the US-800 anyway) I'll keep you guys posted if anyone is interested. I'm downloading Mavericks to my partition right now. A bit of trick or treating aside i should be able to run a few tests tonight.

Just for the record, so far the hardware works without a hitch in every application. However, the "us-800 control panel" will not install properly with Mavericks. still doing some poking around.

I did! However, i managed to figure it out and now all of my software and hardware is fully functional! OSX 10.9 has a security feature that you have to circumvent to install a few 3rd party programs. I discovered when i attempted to run the installer you have to right click on the icon and then open from that menu and tell your computer that you really want to do it.

I also received correspondence from Tascam. They mentioned nothing of new drivers but commented that they've tested the US-800 and everything is fully functional with Mavericks.

On a side note 10.9 is nothing spectacular. Updated only in anticipation of moving to Logic Pro X. So far, so good.

Been caught out a few times with software not supporting OS upgrades so I always wait a while before upgrading
