Rated is the correct word. Actual sustained transfer rates are roughly half of that (200 mbps) and Firewire ends up performing better because if it's more efficient communications protocol.

One thing everybody forgets is that USB (and Firewire) bandwidth is shared among all connected devices. If you are using an external USB HD at the same time, there's no way in hell you'll record more than 2 24bit tracks succesfully.

Actually looking on the Lexicon Web site it says it's a USB 1.1. Wonder how they can get 4 tracks at the same time if you were recording 24/48. Wouldn't something have to give to record 4 tracks while monitoring a stereo output? Guess I could be wrong. Trying to do a little math and it looks like even that is less than 2/3 the USB 1.1 bandwidth?

A lot of people were burned on the Lexicon Core 2, the now defunct PCI recording card. I was one of them, as a matter of fact. Only one actual driver update was released, and no further development done - regardless of the fact that a lot of consumers had difficulty getting them to work in a stable manner. I wouldn't buy anything from them. Then again, that's just me. :)
