Hi,

First time poster here. Lots of good information on this site, but i'd like to get a 'customized' point of view on what i actually need as a setup.

Here is what i'd like to do: I already have a Firepod with Cubase and will be recording drums -using all INs probably- as well as recording the band.

Portability is a must, so I need a laptop. Here is where I need your help: What is the minimum requirement for my laptop?
These details will help me a great deal in getting a machine that will work well for my setup, but more importantly knowing the min requirement will give me a reference point for an eventual upgrade.

Thanks.

these are just suggestions....

Intel Core Duo: most recording programs are multi-threaded and will take advantage of this. most motherboards that use the Core Duo max out at 4 GB RAM, but Windows won't address all this memory. the minimum you'll want to start out with is 1 GB.

5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive: fast drive access if you're not using an external hard drive. 7200 RPM would be optimal in a laptop, but it's very hard to find without upgrading.

FireWire: for your FirePod

also, it might come in handy to make sure you still have a PCMCIA (CardBus Type I/II) in there as well as the newer ExpressCard34/54

CompUSA is running a special this week on a Toshiba with close to these specs for $699 after rebates.
