New Lamb of God

First time I heard them, I thought they were a little bit too derivative of certain other bands, but they grew on me definately. I'll definately be checkin out the new one.

(Even though I'm still most anxiously awaiting Meshuggah's next endeavor)

Lamb of God has a great guitar player but I think the biggest strength of their band is the drummer. I forgot his name, I think its Will Adler. He's a beast.

On Ashes of The Wake the guitar player plays some killer riffs though.

pfffft...you people are tripping

randy blythe is seriously one of the most killer metal singers out there - try signing along to a few LoG songs, and see how long it takes you to start puking

Sure, he's good at what he does, but some people just don't like that sort of delivery. Some people still like a good old fashioned heavy metal singer!

I am having a blast sampling these bands, my son (he's 2) loves it also! I just play the 30 sec clips from amazon, and he starts whaling on my bass... he says "It's hard to say the words when it goes like WAAAAAAAA! (imitated metal-singer scream). Thanks again!

ps - favorite so far = spiral architect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm definitely going to buy them.

Which other ones do you like and how would you describe them?

ok, just to throw a little info out there....

they have 2 guitarists, willie adler and mark morton

their drummer is chris adler, who happens to be willie's brother

and yea, the riffs and drumming is great, especially on ashes of the wake. i was always a sort-of fan of theirs, but the 1st time i heard that album, i just went "ohhhhhhh shit". i don't know exactly what it is, but that album has some sort of insane, intangible, energy that i think puts it up there with some of the best metal albums of all time

A friend of mine loves these bands, many with amazing guitar work and incredible energy, but I can't get into this style of vocal (screaming, cookie monster). I'm probbaly just too old (32), but anyway, are there similar bands that have people who sing melodically? Not ripping on this stuff, sounds cool and all, just curious, figured this was as good a place as any to ask. Thanks for helping a brother find some new music!

Check out: Dream Theatre and Symphony X, both feature good well rounded singers and amazin guitarists (John Petrucci and Michael Romeo)... not to mention the keyboardists... actually Dream Theatre probably win the prize for the best musicianship overall but Symphony X are at times more easy to listen to (more chunky riffs and neo-classical influences) .... in a shred kind of way.

Someone else metioned Iced Earth, also worth a look.

But..... if you want the ultimate technical shred death metal band that wrote great memorable tracks, check out Nocturnus 'Thresholds' (infinitely better than their other stuff).

how about satyricon (sp?)?
anyone like them?

Contrary to popular opinion, I really like the newest Satyricon, even though in the current black metal world, Gorgoroth rules me right now.

And I second Opeth. Amazing fucking band.

Okay, I heard this new Lamb LP.

I thought was generic as shit. The triggered kick drum sounds horrible to me, and I'm wondering just how long metal bands are going to continue their attempts to rewrite the Raining Blood riff. Seriously, that shit was fresh well over ten years ago. Let's move on.....

The Lamb Of God CD I have that I don't care for is New American something....I forgot the third word now.

Thanks for the lineup IronK...I had forggoten how many they had and who was who. I remember the drummer and a guitar player were brothers but I couldn't remember which was which.
