Not out over here yet so got it on US import....

...best fucking album of the year IMHO....

"Sacrament," and it is one of the best albums out right now!

I may have to check it out.

I bought Ashes Of The Wake about 2 years ago. I really like that album, except as with most bands like that their singer leaves MUCH to be desired. But a few months ago I bought another album. I think its newer than Ashes of the Wake but I'm not sure. Either way, its a step down. The recording sucks, the vocals are twice and bad, and the songs don't feature nearlya s many attention grabbing beats and riffs.

A friend of mine loves these bands, many with amazing guitar work and incredible energy, but I can't get into this style of vocal (screaming, cookie monster). I'm probbaly just too old (32), but anyway, are there similar bands that have people who sing melodically? Not ripping on this stuff, sounds cool and all, just curious, figured this was as good a place as any to ask. Thanks for helping a brother find some new music!

I don't know of many. If you want good musicality and distorted guitars put together it seems like Dream Theater is your best option. I'm sure there are others though.

Newer Katatonia, Dragonforce, Killswitch Engage, Wolf and Into Eternity all come to mind. Not all of them are simmilar and not all of them stick to melodic vocals, but they all do it often enough. That's the best I can do off the top of my head, more may follow.

Check out System of a Down or God Forbid, they kick ass. There's a bit of Cookie Monmster on there but there's some awesome singing. Also Killswitch Engage. Some Trivium (although it can be a bit samey sometimes). Metallica, Iron Maiden, Tool, Darkane.

Ashes of the Wake was the last album before the new one. The first album 'New American Gospel' didn't have as good production but to me the sound has a lot of charm. But then I'm a massive Lamb of God fan so maybe I'm biased.

You may want to check out some bands like Nevermore, Cellador, Evergrey, Iced Earth....I need to think about it, I should be able to recommend alot more than that but I'm blank right now :)

If you really like the technical side of things, you might even like Spiral Architect or Psychotic Waltz......

Good call on the Nevermore, I can't believe I spaced on them!

not a huge fan of metal, but i heard one of their songs the other day, kinda liked it!

Damn, I have a huge list of bands to check out. Thanks!

yeah me too. I gotta go download some samples sometime to see if Iw anna buy albums.

Cellador is amazing. Unfortunately, they cop their sound from Dragonforce a bit too much. I can't wait to see how they progress.

Also, +1 for Spiral Architect. Not my favorite thing to listen to, but they are a phenominal band.

tc4b, it sounds like you'd like power metal quite a bit. Beware, it can become the cheesiest of cheesy. You might also want to check out Sonata Arctica. They manage to do power metal without the cheese (well, mostly).

Two heavy, melodic albums I like on those occasions when I'm in the mood for heavy stuff: Shadow Gallery (Room V) and Pagan's Mind (Enigmatic Calling).

pfffft...you people are tripping

randy blythe is seriously one of the most killer metal singers out there - try signing along to a few LoG songs, and see how long it takes you to start puking

Does it sound like he's already puking?

Who the hell is he and is that the abbreviated name of the band?

You might try Killswitch Engage, or Shadows Fall also. Still kind of screaming, but not really cookie monster type vox...

Also, +1 to iced earth.
