Greetings to all. Interesting page. Couple of questions.

I'm interested in acquiring a product that will allow me to record sound anywhere...my interest lies in creating sound collage type "art" as well as music. But I thought maybe I could go beyond buying a small DAT recorder. Does anyone participate in that kind of production and/or do you think one of the VS series recorders would be applicable?...How are they for power supply? Plug only? How heavy are they? Just how portable? Kind of thinking off the top of my head, here, (I could probably find the most direct answer in a copy of the manual), but has anyone taken one for a carry to record?
Also, are the effects applied to one track affected by bouncing or mixing with other tracks? For example, if I have reverb on a track and mix it with a track with chorus, will they retain their individual effect?

Enquiring minds want to know!
Thanks

You probably wouldn't want to carry around a VS. They're portable to the extent that you could bring it to your gig and record. Imagine a typewriter sized box with faders, inputs, a LCD, etc...if you are looking for something to carry around with you i'd suggest a smaller minidisc recorder, a DAT recorder such as you mentioned, or the new zoom palmtop studio.

it's basically a tiny little multritracker with storage on SmartMedia cards...fits in your hand...the vs-880 on the other hand wieghs about ten pounds and you gotta plug it in...

Thank you...the palmtop looks pretty cool. Mini-disc is a good option, hadn't thought of that.
