New Jongleurs tune - Time Is On My Mind

Heard a slight click in the right channel around 1:13. Like a metronome bleed. (Noticed it a few other times too, but that seemed most pronounced)

After the intro, the vocals may be a bit dry and up front.

Overall though, lovely song and solid mix.

Thanks Steve.... I was wondering what that might be, given I don't actually use a metronome for a click, but always a drum pattern, so I had a listen and I can hear what you mean... it turns out that it's a string squeak on one of the acoustic tracks which in the context of all the other noise around is sounding a bit like that horrid "pock pock pock" sound you get from a crappy metronome...

The acoustic tracks are a bit squeaky generally and I've been considering if I should go on a clean up mission with a bit of judicious cut and pasting - might have a play with it over the weekend...

Thanks for the listen and comments..

Thanks Ray. It was a bit of a discard this one. We'd dropped it from the live set - the other guy was a bit "meh" about the arrangement and the ending (different from what I've recorded) and so in the hunt for tracks for the album that didn't require him to do anything I polished it up and put a new ending on it, chopped out a verse (it was too long!) and dropped the fairly average beginning.

He's pretty happy with the way it turned out! ;)

Next I'll be turning my attention to another one of his that we never recorded "properly" but for which I (think I) have a good enough vocal and various other bits and pieces... stay tuned.

Sorry for the delayed response...

You used the 'Black Beauty' sample huh? It does sound pretty good in context. There are some dynamic issues where the level seems to drop at times. Since I triggered them off your snare-your bad. lol! Hard for me to do without being inside your mix...

There are degrees of how much the SS Trigger 'samples' level input and it's subsequent output regarding velocity and sensitivity to the signal it is triggering from. I'm sure you would do great with it if you had it at your fingertips...

Anyway, I agree with the bass guitar not being dominant enough. Also, the kick drum seems to need some balls as well, especially when the bass guitar comes into the mix. The vocals and guitars seem places quite well, but it seems to overpower the drive of the song with out the low end pushing through. Other than that and maybe some vocal level control, I think the tune sounds really good. Great tune!

Though, this is just my opinion.

If you wish to play with some other samples for another track before purchasing SS Trigger, just hit me up. Not a problem man. :D

I used them both actually, but more the other one that the Black Beauty one... and I think I'm using the kick as well... have to check.. yeah, I'll have to do a volume automation on the snares... it's just running flat at the moment - not too bad but is a bit up and down in spots. On my To Do list. There's only so much proper mixing I can do with everything set up in tracking mode...

I'll probably get the SS VSTi, actually, assuming the samples are the same, it doesn't look too complicated. I fiddle around with drums a bit much for replacement to be the best option, I reckon.. be constantly having to redo stuff.

I have been digging into Addictive a bit more and scouring the net for presets that work a bit better using those SS Trigger files as a reference and I'm sort of getting somewhere, but not with every song. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

And at some stage I'm going to have to "reference mix" all these songs together too.. one after another, check for general level consistency... thinking that might be my Christmas project if I get the rest of the recording done before then... :D
