New John Hardy Preamp

I've had a John Hardy M1 personal pre now for a few days and I'll say it is terrific. Very transparent. Works like a champ on C1, KM184 and especially my Royer R121.

As I'm pretty new at this, I can't believe how much difference there is in a GOOD preamp and decent ones. Before I used the VLZ pro preamps in my Mackie board.

Now I'll have to save enough to get a 4 channel M1.

From time to time you'll see all sorts of people here quoting from all sorts of sources to the effect that "the effect of upgrading mic pres is subtle and over-rated".

Maybe they're just trying to convince themselves. But now you KNOW the diference it can make, and because of your personal experience
no one will ever be able to convince you otherwise.

congrats. THey must be extrememly good cos I have preffered the mackie pres to pres costing much more.

Can you post some samples? and maybe a comparo between the hardy and the mackie?

They are extremely good, but only one of dozens and dozens of possibilities that would blow Mackie out of the water.

John Hardy makes some nice stuff. His mic preamps are very well respected by the golden ears crowd.
