New in this business

I've just started in this recording business.
I was given some equipments by a friend, and also a software, Cakewalk 9.0.
My question is: is this Cakewalk a good software?
I mean, can I get results close to a professional level?

I fyou know what you are doing you can get excellent results.
I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm working on it.

By the way, Sonar, which is the upgrade to CW9 is a lot more powerful. But I learned for a year on CW9 and was very happy with it. Especially the mixing automation...very cool.
