OK heres the deal: I have currently a set of creative labs T5300 INSPIRE 5.1's in my room, 154 watts peak, 75 watts RMS. The sub is 22 watts RMS but is getting old and the 5 3/4 inch woofer is getting pretty worn out ( NEVER AGAIN!!) each sat is rated at 8 watts RMS with a 20 watts RMS center chanle.

I would like to upgrade this system , and not spend more than 200 dollars on it. I was wanting to know your guyses opinion on a set of Logitech z5500 digitals, 505 watts RMS , 1010 watts Peak. ( all I really pay attention to is the RMS rating.)

anyways... here are the specs. ( dont laugh, I know they sound like they were written by a 9 year old :p )

Powerful, distortion-free bass: The new, larger 10-inch long-throw subwoofer driver with flared bass port delivers 188 watts of thunderous bass.
Innovative driver technology: Polished aluminum phase-plug satellites combine two drivers into one--the clarity of a tweeter with the richness and fullness of a separate mid-range.
Digital equalization: The Z-5500 Digital actively adjusts frequency response in real time for the cleanest, most accurate sound reproduction.
DTS® 96/24 support: Enjoy studio-quality sound thanks to the Z-5500's support for 96 kHz / 24-bit digital audio streams
Amazingly powerful controls: The Digital SoundTouch™ Control Center lets you control volume to all speakers, set inputs, and much more. And the separate wireless remote is great for home theaters and video game consoles.
Innovative satellite design: Cloth grilles are removable for a pro-audio look. Pedestals rotate for easy wall mounting or desk placement. Center channel can be mounted on wall, above or below monitor.
Connect to multiple sources: Simultaneously connect 6 audio sources including PCs, video game consoles, and DVD, CD & portable music players… and control it all from the Digital SoundTouch™ Control Center.

I can get this system for 250 bucks off of newegg.com, or the predecessor to it, the z680, for 200 bucks. Which is better? I want the best I can get for the 200, but is it worth it to spend the 50 dollars extra on the z5500?

thanks!

Well, as long as you get that "pro audio look" I'd go for the new ones.

One of the home theater websites may have better advice, but this system seems to get good reviews.
Check out one of those home theater sites anyway, some good advice on placement, calibration, and troubleshooting there.

haha

lol thanks. But is it really worth the extra 50 dollars? I hear that the sub puts out more bass than the z680, but is that really true? The wattage specs and freq. specs, and even the 10 inch size woofer, are all the same on both. Does one have a different cabintet?

BTW, for calibration, I have an Audigy 2 ZS , with a speaker calibration software that came with it, as well as an on board EQ, and all kinds of contolls I am still learning to use ater a year of having it!

thanks, TMFK~

I can not comment on the set up you are talking about but wishied to let you know before I got my home theater upgraded, I used Altec Lansing THX certified system surrround with sub, it was great for a poor mans setup. I think either way you will be fine but the latest greatest is often improved so go for it ang best of luck!

thanks

ah ok thanks~! Might I add, this logitech is also THX certified, and certainly isnt cheap by my budjet, but after a few mowing jobs I shuould be able to afford it. I was going to go with the Logitech z5300, but its only 280 watts RMS total power, with a 100 watt RMS sub, but the sub is only a 6 and a half inch sub, so i deciced on the larger z5300s.

altech lansing is pretty good, but their quality has deminished over the years to made in china stuff, still better than some ( such as juster multimedia... 140 watts PMPO!! yeah right, you know the ones with the 2 watt rms built in amps>? :p ) anyways.. thanks for the comment!

woah what the....
