I dont want anything big not trying to start something Garth Brooks would come to, just for me. Maybe do some demos of the band to give out or sell but i want to record my own songs and i dont want it to sound like crap pluss i like to play with stuff like this, so i guess what im looking for is some kind of map like this goes here and that goes there kinda thing. i have all the PA equipment one would need and a spare computer im going to rebuild. just looking for some pointers on how to build it and how to put them together as cheeply as i can im going to buy a sound blaster sound card but what else do i need help!!!!!

Hey, as far as the computer goes, I would make sure that you give it enough power to run the tracks you need. I personally use AMD Athlon XP CPUS because they seem more stable to me. I would load it with at least a 2500+ or higher, also give it at least 512mb of ram. Also, it would be good to have two hard drives. Maybe one 40gb and one 160gb that's partitioned into 2 partitions. I probably wouldn't get a SB sound card, those are definitely geared towards gaming, and you won't get the sound you're looking for. As far as software goes, if you just want to record yourself, you probably don't need anything too fancy. Maybe Cubase vst or sonar 2? But then you may want to get a breakout box, and many of those come with recording software. I personally use an Aardvark Q10 and love it! I don't know... I'm sure the other guys on this board could help you out a lot more, but as far as I see it, you need a computer, a breakout box, and software. Just make sure your breakout has Mic pres or buy seperate pres.

amd computer a la echelon
decent mics a la beyer or cad.
