Hello everyone. This is my first time ever trying to set up a mini home recording studio, and I've ran into some trouble. I got a Shure SM57 microphone and a Steinberg CI1 audio interface, but somehow, even though it recognises my microphone (the peak light turns on), no sound comes from it. I'm probably making a very basic mistake here, most likely configuration wise, but I can't seem to fix it. Any help will be extremely welcome, thanks in advance :)

Good morning Mari and welcome.
Yup most likely "a very basic mistake"! But don't feel bad, getting audio interfaces sorted is THE classic "easy when you know how" scenario.

I have downloaded the C11 manual and I have to say that the installation instructions are not the clearest I have ever seen. Generally it goes..."Make sure device is unplugged. Run driver disc (or download latest driver). Plug in device when prompted. Run as screen prompts advise." Jobs is usually a good'un.

Steinberg asks you to install all the other software first. I would not have thought that necessary but maybe best to go with the flow? Did you install the software and drivers exactly as per the manual? If not it would probably be best to run "Restore" back to before you had the interface and try again.

There are also differences between the setup procedure for XP and Win7.(whacha got?) I would expect different drivers but not a different MO? Got to do it their way tho'but.

I have run Sequel in the past as a demo and so cannot do so again so if you continue to have trouble best install Audacity for now because we can all help you with that.

Dave.

What DAW are you using? Do you have it set with the C11 has input and output device?

Hi Mj'. If the OP has followed the manual Steinberg Sequel is the DAW. As I say, I cannot access that any longer (and I sure ain't gonna buy it!) so Audacity would be the best bet to get ins and outs sorted in my view.

Dave.
