I finally have a full song MP3 to post here.

I took a riff I posted last week and expanded it into a song today. After a hard days work, here's the result.

Any and all advice, tips and suggestions would be great!

Vocals will be added...think Breaking Benjamin style...no cookie monster or any of that screamo crap!

Thanks!

listening as I type...(through headphones mind you)

I really like the distorted guitar sound you are getting (very nice and wet)..

Mind sharing how you got the distorted sound? (the chain and what you did with the tracks afterwardes, panning etc...)

Overall cool sound...the drums and non-distorted guitar needs to both come up some or lower the distorted guitar as its overpowering (again thru headphones so take that with a grain of salt)

Like it though overal man, nice tune and good recording ~

Thanks for the comments...I'm a guitar player so my mixes always seem to be too guitar heavy! I'm sure if I were a drummer, my drums would always dominate the mix, :p

In any case, here's my chain...

Ibanez SZ520 stock -> Roland Cube 30 (treadplate setting, gain-5, bass-6, mids-5, treb-7) -> Direct into crappy USB interface

Once I got the tracks in Cubase Studio 4, I added some compression, EQ, and Gate. The EQ I basically peaked a little at both 90Hz and 6KHz. I also dropped off the bottom end, to let the bass take over the low frequencies.

I agree with the above poster. The guitars sit well, the drums need to come up in the mix. That high hat? Kinda sounds like it doesn't fit, it needs one with less "Ring" to it. Kinda hard to explain?

Overall though, I think you have done an excellent job! :)

So, you didn't mic the amp you went direct huh? Hmmm I think my Johnson amp has an out I can use a direct box on to test it out...

Ya, my experience is that different amps sound totally different going direct. What I mean is some will sound amazing, better than if you mic'd, like my Cube 30, but others jus sound so much better mic'd up. I go direct with my amp because it sounds great, and I'm in a dorm room on a city street, so isolation isn't available to get a good mic'd tone.

I have yet to write lyrics, which is why the song has no name yet.

I am planning to add lyrics and vocals.

the kick drum is making the compressor pump pretty hard. It's making my ears feel weird.
