Hi All: Some here are familiar with Gwen. For those that aren't, she's a 20 year old autistic savant. Her areas of expertise are the histories of: music, tv, movies. She is a student in my special education class and we have hit it off having these things in common. I take her in my studio a few times a year to record her original songs, and her favorite cover songs that sings to Karaoke tracks. Here is a tip of the iceberg from yesterdays session. The recording process with Gwen is simple. She comes in and sings her songs one time and is done. She doesn't even want to hear them back. Her high is the headphones and microphone in front of her. She did a complete cd of christmas song covers accapella, 10 originals, and 9 karaoake songs of mainly tim mcgraw. She did an errie version of Leslie Gore's You don't own Me. I added this one as well to her soundclick site.
Music is a way Gwen can relate to the world. A simple 2 sentence conversation tazes her. Yet, she can sing all day, and gets endless joy out of it. We are performing together the 21st at an art show by mentally disabled artists. We played last year and it was a big hit. I can't wait! Walter
