Hello all. I'm new so i hope this is not too beat up of a question but. I really need to know what makes those really deep almost sub-sonsic synth bass sounds of some R&B/Hiphop. The song "here we go" by Kelly rowland and Trina is one example. I am familier with recording, many synths of all kinds and such so don't be afarid to talk over my head. Thanks. P.S...maybe trilogy or arturia or moog or what?

There are softsynths --- free ones to boot --- that can make those kind of sounds.

Go here --- KVR --- and search for Taurus, MinimogueVA, Triangle II and Monolisa.

Then all you need is an audio/midi sequencer that runs VSTi plugins. Try downloading the Tracktion demo here --- http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion2/ --- and see if you like it.

The big boomy kick is very often a Roland TR-808. U can find all sorts of samples of this or the real thing will run u about ~$800. I'll dig through my notes for a DJ Magic Mike bass on a 101 and post it here

Along these same lines, you can take a TR-808 sample, loop it in the sampler, and layer it underneath the synth bass. If you have a compressor that distorts in a nice way, run the 808 bassline through it to give it a bit more definition.

Im gonna say...

theres no real reason to go for a whole new synth.
(although it probably will come in handy later.)

The part of the synth you need is the filter.

Find a good low synth sound.
And apply some Filter to it.
Play with the cut-off.
Id try all types of filter just to see which sound you like best.
Just to see what you like.
(Hi-Pass and Low-Pass are the ones id check out first.)
You can find those for free on hitsquad.com.

Thats the only way ive ever been able to get those sounds.

Hopefully, Where ever your recording to can handle the frequency.
(24bit preferrably)

The Drum sounds are usually, as they said, a TR-808.
You can find those drum samples just about everywhere.

good luck.

Ive used HH for years.

Honestly its an amazing program, especially since its free.

Its completely flexible, Its more than drums, you can make soundbanks,
and use it as a sampler.

I almost suggested it, but i opted not to.
