just went down to my local music store and bought a mexican made strat and had them swap the pickguard and electronics and put the texas specials in and i bought a old fender princeton reverb amp , this thing is all tube and the tubes were just replaced and man wanna talk about tone holy cow. i had them put 13 gauge strings on the strat and man does it play hard lol, but the tone is giant and its almost worth it.i cant say enough good about the old princeton amp this thing just screams, it dont have any kinda overdrive other than the tubes being overdriven when cranked but it will shake the whole house and its only 30 watts. these old fender amps realy carry the tone that is for sure. anyway im just rambling now lol. god bless

13's? you tryin' to punish yourself? you must have hands like an orangutan.

The Fender Princeton is g great find, especialy an old tube type, I've got a Princeton chorus ( an old one too ) and I love it. I have to question your thinking on the 13s for strings on the strat, I'm sure you get great tone from them but you can save a lot of wear on your hands by going a bit lighter. Of course if you are trying to build up a grip so you can bend nails between your fingers and don't care if you warp the neck on the strat then go for it. Seriously, play on the heavy strings for a couple of months then switch to a lighter set, it will make the strat seem like a new guitar again and increase your pleasure in playing it.

i am tuning it down half a step, and on my next string change im gonna go with 10s so like you said it will play like butter and ill be able to bend nails with ease lol.the whole idea behind the 13s is .
1. get my fingers in enormous shape.
2. im gonna use my strat mainly for rythm tracks on my recordings so the added tone will be a plus.(srv could bend 13s better than i can bend 9s).
3.like you said when i switch strings it will feel like a whole new guitar again.

and yes the princeton reverb was a great find, i use to have a two chanel princeton when i was a teenager but didnt know what it was and because it didnt have that metal sound i dumped it for and randall (boo).my other princeton was custom hot rodded by some guy in detroit and it was awesome, i just wish i would of known what it was back then. oh well now i gott another one so its ok.
