Hey guys, new to the board.

Been writing alot of rap for lord know how long and we finally started recording for the past 6 months. We got the connections to do a website for us and branding logos etc which is all done and just needs to be put online so that end is going great.

I have been recording over 40 demos songs now with my hip hop group and we are getting ready to go to the studio. Then we began thinking that maybe just maybe we could save the money and record at home. We already have all the beats done and the software is good for effects etc. Any suggestions you guys have on equipment/sound proofing will be greatly appreciated.

Currently the setup we have been using is as follows:

Software:
Fruity loops
Reason
Cubasis
Cool edit pro

Hardware:

Yamaha keyboard with midi out to computer (for beat making)
Bass guitar with amp line out to the computer (for beat making)
Electric violin with pickup to amp to the computer (for beat making)
Pentium 4 3 ghz with 1 gig ram etc. Large hard drive.
Creative labs Audigy 2 platinum with front optical/coax/1/4" jacks and adjustable gain.
Microphone 1/4", not the greatest.

We've been thinking of just spending money on a better mic and maybe some soundproofing, all we need now is to record vocal tracks for hip hop/r+b.

you can record your vocals into cubasis or cool edit pro.

get a decent mic, pre amp, and a compressor and go at it.

u gonna wanna get yourself some studio monitors if u plan on mixing the material yourself.
