i posted this in another section but maybe i can get some advice here..please? at least with the mic questios..

aloha,

this is my first post to this forum. i have read around a bit and done my own research but some help would be great. i am looking for some advice on my next purchaces. i have a digi 002 rack, tc electric power core running on my g4 powerbook. i want to record my band. possibly as a trio (drum, bass, guitar (di with pod) then over dub percusion and who knows what else. the music we play varies from mostly reggae/hawaiian to punk/funk. i am looking at the presonus digimax fs to go into my digi 02. would that be better and more versatile than say a good small mixer? i think it will be. i am also looking for advice on some drum/all around mics. i have a rode nt1, a couple a shure 57s a 58 and a cheap behringer condenser.
i was looking at the akg d112 for kick. the reggae thump? still unsure about overheads. should i go big (relatively) and get a octava mk-012 matched pair. or another rode nt1. or would i do just as well with the mxl 603 or akg perception 150's? also looking at a pair of the akg c430?? am i missing anything obvious.m-audio? studio projects? rode? what gets me the most bang for he buck and i wont want to uprgrade instantly. dont want to be spending more money than i need to but want to have some gear i can use for some years.

The FS is a good unit, the pres are quiet, but not a pre that makes you say "wow", as far as mics, look into the www.oktavamod.com website. They have great prices for FANTASTIC mods. Buy a pair of MK219s, get them modded, or buy new modded ones directly from him. He will even match the pair if you'd like. For kick, I like the d112 or the beta 52, or better yet try mixing one with a homemade sub kick to get a great mix. The Oktavas will be a great vocal mic as well as good for overheads, room micing, guitar (I know "LDC for guitar?", just try it.) as well as an external kick mic (think U47 fet).

good luck!

thanks for reply

thanks a lot for the advice. will see if those mics are in my budget. from the testimonials they sound amazing. homeade sub kick may be beyond me. i'll look around the bbs and see what that is about. is that like the yamaha sub kick?

mahalo again.

Yeah, it's like the yamaha one, but only costs $10-$80 depending on the speaker and transformer. There are alot of places to find info about it.
