I've got a pair of vintage Shure Unidyne 545 IIIs and an RNC on the way. Can't wait to try the Shures on electric guitar and drums very soon. And looking forward to hearing the RNC on everything...should be a nice complement to my RNP. Just thought I'd share.
 
Got 'em off ebay. The 545 Unidynes are the precursor to the current SM57. They're silver instead of grey, and they were made in the U.S. Also, they're supposed to sound a bit sweeter than the 57s. Good for snare, electric guitar. I'll probably try one on a rack tom, as I don't have too many drum mics at this point.
 
I've got one and it sounds a lot smoother than a 57, you're gonna love it. Still gotta watch placement, they can get a little harsh if too close to the speaker
