New features that Sonar 3 should have....

GO PACKERS!
I think a "rack" for effects would be great. It may look cool to have all these different interfaces but with all the different shapes and layouts it would be nice if all your plugs could be loaded in one "virtual rack" with faceplates that took up a minumum of screen space. It would be much easier to scroll through the rack than to expand and collapse individual windows.

Just an idea, any others that you can think of?

Oh! And, surround mixing! :D I'm serious...

You know it's funny,I really don't care about surround mixing yet I feel that somehow it's going to become standard somewhere down the road and once again I'll be behind the curve.DOH!:o

I just want to try it.... ;)

Another feature I would like to see is a kind of "physical output", say different VMains are connected to the same output. You can do that now, but what I'm missing is meter for the output...

Crucial is the ability to route virtual mains to one, final MAIN. Its the biggest failing of Sonar. If you use virtual mains, you can't apply the same effect across the entire main mix.

A buggy WaveProfiler would be awesome. That's why I didn't switch to SONAR yet. I can't miss my Homestudio's buggy WaveProfiler.

:D

Options for Metronome. Using MIDI and/or audio (like featured in CEP2)!!!

VST support would be better because correct me if I'm wrong, however with a wrapper there would be more of a delay/latency for the effect.

I don't think we'll see fully VST-support in Sonar (or any other cakewalk products for that matter) as they're buildt around DirectX. Cubase on the other hand is buildt on VST-"technology", but it has to use some kind of "DirectX-to-VST"-wrapper deep, deep down to use DirectX effects.

And that's fine by me! VST is getting rather old, compared to the ever-developing DirectX. Nice! :D

Did you know that DXi is more efficient than VSTi? ;)

I suppose you know that Cakewalk have just bought fxpansion...so its unlikely to develop VSTi anytime soon.:(

A flag you can set on audio and midi clips so that they will loop until forever, or they hit something else in the track.

I guess this is probably minor to most of you on this board, but I would like to just see the program paint the waves as its recording. This stops me from using it as an audio recorder now.

Only if it doesn't take horsepower away from other more important stuff.

You guys have already hit on my two biggies - VST/VSTi support, and the ability to route VMains to other Vmains. I suspect this latter one HAS to be included in Sonar 3 - there's simply too many people asking for this capability.
