Just like the 20/20's (IMHO) the passives sounded considerably better (cleaner, more natural) than the actives in the shootout.

They also sounded considerably more accurate and less "hyped" than the 20/20 series in general. That being said, the 20/20's were the "demo" models and the SP's were brand spankin' new.

Thumbs up (on the SP's) for the most part.

Haha... After a few experiences, I've always felt the passives models were significatly nicer than their powered brothers, when it comes "budget monitors".

the asp8's are nothing like the 20/20's they're a hold different monster
i use 20/20's now, they don't compare to the asp8's at all.
once i get my money right, i'ma get the asp8's

you need to hear the asp8 next to gen1031's, 20/20's and hr824's in a studio not a store and you'll see they're awesome...
even in the store they should sound great if they're setup right..

i got to model them in a studio with other high end monitors and everyone agreed the asp8's had better imaging, clean powerful lows, smooth highs, better dynamics that the other monitors

i also modeled the monitors last month with a group of ppl at one of the top pro audio dealers in atlanta along with David hetrick(national sales manger) and anthony myers(producer/engineer)
once again the asp8's blew the mackies away... got to really see how crappy they really are.. and the gens sounded good but overall lacked the tone and overall sound of the asp8's.. at only 1200 they can compare with just about any near field monitors out there.
