I am selling my MR8 and moving on to a daw setup. However, I know that later technology will be better than the gear i buy now, so im going to be cheap. Im looking for something that can give me 24 bit into ntrack or something similar. I also want something that can do two tracks simultaneously and has midi capabilities for a small midi controllers. I don't want an outboard mixer, so i want the dual xlr/1/4" (same jack, not sure what these are called) inputs. Phantom power in the preamps would be nice, but not essential. So far my main ideas for equipment are:
-Computer interface (<$250)
-NTrack
-Mic Preamp, tube or ss (<$150)

other than that, I have everything i need to record. Any ideas on exactly what products i can look at?

my computer is a pentium 4 1.69 ghz with 256 mb of ram. Its running xp and has usb and open pci slots.

thanks for any replies! :-)

read some of my newbie articles in the newbies forum.
particularly dealing with configuring a good sounding low cost studio. it will answer your questions.

And look into some M-Audio stuff for that <$150 interface.
